Automatic Blurter

I agree, Robert, your not boring, either that or I just want to know more technical stuff ;D

I do have to say, while it does come as an embarrassment to parents or adults of the "auto-blurter" I don't see it as sooooo much of a disadvantage. I like to see the positive aspects of things, and while, yes, it is annoying, I would rather have someone tell me point blank what was on their mind.

Just like the little girl who deceided to ask her friends mom. To me, it was put up or shut up time for that other mom, and who better than an innocent child to call her on it?

Short story....I had a family I used to babysit for. 2 little girls, and a baby brother. One little girl was boucing on forever and had the "auto blurter" thing going, while the other was quiet, shy and SNEAKY as all get out. baby brother started to get sneaky once he was old enough. I would rather deal with an auto blurter telling me that she thought my hair was messy in the middle of the store (which happened) than to deal with the sneaky behavior from the others.

I always tell my kids and any of the kids I work with, I need to know what the truth is, or else nothing will get resolved. Put into context, if anyone is bottling up something because they have been told to put a lid on it, they are going to explode.

Actually, my ds isn't too bad in this area...most of the incidents I've chalked up to kid/age behavior. Most small children don't realize what they've said might hurt another...

The worst was when a child across the street lost his dad to a heart attack. Although the child wasn't well-liked in general in the neighborhood (he was a little odd and quite bossy), we told ds that Ryan could come over anytime because he needed friends to get through the trauma of losing his dad.

Well, Ryan came to the door one day and ds blurted, "You can come over cuz your dad died!" OMG, I wanted to sink into the ground... We made ds apologize (but he reallly didn't mean it to sound nasty, he was only repeating what we'd said - he was about 6 at the time). I pre-emptively apologized to Ryan's mom, but luckily, she didn't make a big deal of it ("kids will be kids.").

A couple of times, ds has told me that my hair is flat, or my belly is getting big (I'm pg right now), but he's just making observations.

I love the girl who asked the Mom why she never reciprocated!! The things we'd love to ask but can't get away with!!! LOL.

I typed some stuff, then rethunk it.

I speak what is on my mind. What I say is not meant to sound offensive to anyone, unless they take it that way. When I have conversations with people, I respect their point of view. I might not like it, but I am not in their shoes. I don't go through what they do, I don't live their life.

I was raised to be honest, trustworthy, and polite. I try to do that in all that I do. I was raised to put myself in someones shoes, do unto others, all that jazz.
I instill in my children that it might hurt others feelings if they were to say something not nice. Please be kind and help if it's needed, don't stand by and watch another struggle.

BUT sometimes in todays world, which is so bent on being politically correct, we won't see the elephant in the living room. THAT is when I don't have a problem with any kids speaking their mind. Something so obvious that some adults think is beyond comprehension of a child.

The innocence is being taken by a political monster so our children can't ask questions that they are curious about. Why doesn't that guy have a leg? Why is she fat? How come your teeth are yucky? Why don''t we have enough money to get another car? Why did your brother die?
Sounds like auto blurting, but it is the innocence of the child that yearns for answers and has no inhibition to shut the trap, so to speak.
I have had to answer all of these questions, and yes, I was embarrased to answer a few, but they were not asked in vain, arrogance or pity. They were asked in compassion or curiosity.

I guess what I am trying to say is don't destroy the innocence. When it is gone, it's gone. Sorry so long, struck a cord.
