I feel like the queen of questions today, but this thread is just worrying.
As I have reported before Honey is very delayed in speech and language. I got a note today from the school that they want to meet with us tomorrow. It is not an IEP meeting, they said they just want to discuss this progress in speech therapy before progress reports come out again. As of the last report he was falling further behind. I know he is not doing well again or they would just send the report home and tell us what a great job he is doing.
I already arranged for DH to be off of work b/c I know they are going to try and railroad me into putting him into early childhood. I am firm against that. He is scared of the teacher. Also, if he switched he would go everyday from 8-1 instead of 2 days a week from 8-3. With DH at the meeting I will have more of a backbone, there is strength in numbers and the school always travles in 2's, 3's, 4's, or 5's.
Does anyone know if you can have speech and language privately tested? I want to compare. Sorry for the rant, I am just worried. I hate it when I feel like it is me against the school and on this on I know it is.

Yes you can certainly have a private speech and language eval. You just want to make sure you pick a therapist who primarily works with children. I don't know where you live, but a great resource is at a university. Students do the testing, but they are closely supervised by instructors and the students put ALOT of effort into it. You can usually watch via a one way mirror if you choose. They also have a much lower fee structure. We have used them for evaluation and treatment and been very pleased. Just check at the Speech and Language department if you call for information. Has Honey ever been evaluated by an O.T? Just curious, since language issues often are present with other developmental issues that OT can be very helpful with. GOOD LUCK...I know how that feels when you search desparetely for information that will help. It sounds like you know what is best for him, so hang in there.

I don't know what OT is. Is that occupational therapy? Or is it something else?
We do live really close to 3 good schools. I am within an hour of UW Eau Claire, UW La Crosse, and Winona State in MN. I should check that out. I will ask his Doc if he knows anything about it when we go next week.
thanks...

Yep OT is occupational therapy, or occupational therapist as she meant it in the sentence I believe...
Has honey had his hearing tested?? My sd also has hearing aids, and has had problems most her life with her ears... If not I would look into that after you hear what they want to say to you tomorrow... Good luck and show em some backbone!!!

Yes, Honey has had his hearning tested several times.
He had tubes put in when he was 9 months old. Then when he was 3 he had his tonsils and adenoids out. I have had it tested twice in the last year and each it shows he has perfect hearing. They don't do the usual hand raising test because he won't cooperate. They put a plug in his ear that sends out a signal of some sort and then the eardrum activity is recorded. I don't remember exactly how it works, but each time since the surgeries the hearing is fine.
What do they do in OT?
