In an effort to conserve fuel, the Governor of Georgia has asked that all school districts be closed the next two days. No work for me and no school for Cami! Plus, they estimate a great deal of savings of gas and oil at a time when gas is short...by keeping busses of the roads and preserving the diesel fuel used for them, and of course employees going to work and parents driving their kids. Any other states out there doing this?

Not here in Michigan. Will the kids have to make up the days off?

Even tho I'm in SC, our tv stations are from GA. I was watching tv when suddenly that message was showing on the bottom of the tv. I couldn't believe it, and called a friend to make sure that I wasn't seeing things! Anyway, SC will NOT be closing schools, much to my boys dismay!

I heard about that. My wife asked, who is going to stay home with the kids? Won't all that missed work have an impact on the economy too? Miles

Miles On the news this morning they were saying about the parents getting uptight about it being considered a "snow day" and they were compalining...... Personally, I wouldn't be complaining, but then again, I don't work in that kind of atmosphere

aaaahhh but miles us oooops just noticed you are northerners also!!northerners deal with this last minute stuff all the time! Even more so then a weekend notice, we are notified by 6:00 am, and school starts at 8:00 .... I guess I dont have a whole lot of sympathy, since here it is common to last minute find daycare... From what I gather in Georgia, and other places that snow is such a rareity, I believe for REAL snow days they shut the whole town down... So people dont have to work either... Of course I simply cant understand that concept, never seen it happen here... ;D cat

My sis's kids are in N. Carolina and in their city if they call off school for a day ..they are expected to be there the next Saturday for classes. Makes it hard on divorced families where the kids do the weekend shuffle. I wish our school would decide to save some gas...permanently. ;D but noooo..our governor would rather raise or invent new taxes than cut back on fuel. I think he is probably one of those one term wonders. ;D ;D ;D

Cat, you are right...my part of Georgia, if we have snow..the whole town shuts down! It can be quite hilarious to people that are used to snow..but remember, we RARELY get snow so we just aren't equipped for it AT ALL! ;D As far as making it up...I have heard mixed answers. One newspaper article said no, but then the school district I work for said they were undecided. By law two days CAN be waived, and this HAS been done many times in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if these days are waived....but if they do decide to have them make it up, they'll probably make it the two days they get for "winter break" in February. Those days are always noted as being make-up days if needed. As for me, I'm enjoying my two days off. We spent the day shopping yesterday and today we are tackling the project of cleaning out Cami's closet and preparing for a yard sale. It's keeping me from being here as much as normal, but y'all can certainly survive without me!
