He will more than likely be just fine, but even if he does get homesick, scared, act up, etc it is only across the street. I remember my parents driving a friend 15 miles home at about 1 am. I also remember picking up one of my kids in the middle of the night.

Kurs brings back memories !! ... I can remember both those scenarios too at one time or another!! I can also understand how you are feeling Amsmom ... I was just the same the first time Sam had a sleepover which was ALSO just across the street .... He slept there quite often as a youngster but quite often came home as well when it was time for bed!! Let us know how it goes ! I hope he has a GREAT time!!

Yes those first sleepovers are bad on us parents . I still worry when they spend the night at a friends house. I also can relate to going and getting a child at 12:00 am. I hope your ds had a great time.

"Obstinate" is about as close I can get to "ornery" What is "stroppy"?

Thanks Linda!! ... I think from what you say ornery and stroppy are fairly similar in meaning .... We would say that someone is "stroppy" if they are bad-tempered and difficult and awkward ... or we might say that they are "in a strop" ! Could they be 'in an Ornery'?

brittany mainly slept over with one other girl who was also adhd. i think it helped her parents deal with brittany because they understood what was happening. i sent meds and the parents were good about giving them to her. i think she also helped the parents get a break from their own dd. with a friend around, she didn't bother them! the bad part was that eventually brittany stole from her. sometime in middle school i think. it was awful and she lied right to our face. the mom had called and given me warning so we knew to keep calling her bluff until she finally broke down. they didn't ask her to sleep over for awhile after that. i don't blame them of course. the girls are still friends, mostly on and off. they get tired of each other when they spend alot of time together. i hope everything went well and your ds is asked over again. karen

he was ornery and stroppy when i picked him up only b/c he did not want to leave his friend's house! they did great together. ds tells me that they went to sleep "at 11:07", but that they ate a midnight snack and went back to sleep! he had such a blast. i am soooo grateful that all went well!!!! thanks all!!!

Amsmom, I was hoping everything worked out. The first officail sleep over I remember personally was a girl that lived a door over from us.
The funny part was that I was crying that I wanted to go home.....and because we always cut through the back yards to go to each others houses, I ran home.....through the back yards....dark as night...tot he back door ;D ;D ;D
I was such a dork ;D

I am so glad that he had a good time Amsmom!! I reckon "a neighbours house" is a GREAT way to start in the world of "sleepovers" ... particularly since its amazing how many kids want to go home when they first start sleepovers!! ... This is all a good trip down memory lane for many of us ... and I remember when Sam first slept at the neighbours house and getting a phone call from him at about 10:30 p.m. and he said "I just called to say Goodnight" ... and that became his "CODE" for "I want to come home"... (because he didn't want to tell his hosts that he wanted to go home) ... so whenever he was at a sleepover and I got a call saying that I would say " Do you want to come home?" and he would whisper "Yesss" .... and then he would leave it to ME to explain to his friend's parents that he was leaving!! Oh memories!! ;D

so whenever he was at a sleepover and I got a call saying that I would say " Do you want to come home?" and he would whisper "Yesss" .... that is just soooo cute annie!!! i fully expected ds to want to come home too. i was very impressed!!! last night i hoped that, being so "grown up" now, he would stay in his own bed the whole night, but not so!! he still came to my bed in the middle of the night...cant say i minded tho!
