Amsmom, that is scary We had a game growing up that was like that, I can't remember what it was, since I never did it, I was too scared.........but it stopped real quick after we had a kid pass out around here Thanks for the call to attention. When ever I see my kids fighting, which they have done quite a bit here recently, I ask them if they want me to do that to them Stops them from fighting and they learn quickly that they aren't as big as they thought they were

We have similar "passing out games" here too. I always wonder what would make a kid want to do that to themselfs!! I guess they think nothing could ever happen to them. So sad

What a heart-wrenching story. Thanks for sharing it with us Amsmom and giving us the warning. I have not heard of such, but will make sure Cami does and knows the danger. I hope if this is becoming nationally known that schools are addressing it with class counseling sessions.

This is scarey. Nate always wants to please others and fit in. That ususally gets him in the most trouble. I pray that others don't convince him that it is ok to try something like this, or that he even has to see this happen. I will definately have a talk to him about this. Miles

OMG !! That is absolutely awful!! I have never heard of this or anything even similar until now ... This is really important information however and since it is obviously "going on" every parent should be made aware of ... Thanks Amsmom for sharing this.

I read about this in another magazine, but I cant remember which one just yet. What will kids think up next? When I was in school huffing was just gaining in popularity. Along with car surfing. Very dumb ideas. Dan and Amber dont know anyone yet who has tried this. Dan said he already knows what it is like to be unable to breathe (he has asthma) and does not want to do that intentionaly.

i also read about this, how awful. we used to try to pass out when i was in middle school. can't remember how but it had nothing to do with hanging. seems like it was trying to hold your breathe until you passed out. i tried but could never manage it long enough to pass out. have no idea why this was something i tried to do, didn't last long, thank goodness. karen

Yes, this is scary. Even back in the 70s there was a passing out "game," at our school, but it ended quickly when a couple of girls ended up in the hospital with stomach cramps. It was not done by choking but somehow by taking deep breaths while bending over.

I have heard about this new "high" but I just don't get it why make yourself pass out to feel the rush? I haven't heard of it happening around here. Hopefully it is a phase that will end real soon.
