Just a few more days of prep for Li'l Sprout's 504 meeting. I haven't signed off on the IEP ending and won't until we have a 504 plan that we can all agree on. That's a nice ace in the hole. I think I have the accomodations I want hammered out from my perspective. I've told the 504 coordinator what problems I want to see accomodated. I want to look her list over before I share mine with her. That way instead of adopting mine, we can see if she has some good ideas that the advocate and I haven't thought of. It may be after Christmas before I have anything solid though. He screwed up early in this term and had some D's. This weakened the school's argument that he doesn't even need a 504 plan. They've been giving him all kinds of extra credit to pull those grades up this week. Running around like bunnies with their tails on fire. If I didn't know what that was all about I'd be real touched by their concern You can bet I will thank them all kindly for giving him all those extra points for bringing in canned food for the food drive at the meeting ;D. Just enough points to bring those Ds up to C-'s.

It does seem like you have a bit of a bargaining tool there!! Waiting to sign off the IEP until you are satisfied the 504 will meet your childs needs... Good job!! I wish their concern was more from their hearts, I think you are right to KNOW there are ulterior motives behind the teachers actions ... Good luck and keep us informed.. cat

They just can't get it through their heads that I didn't just fall off the turnip truck.
I must look real dumb or something. Maybe I should stop picking my nose on campus and ditch the corncob pipe. Whatever. I usually find the school underestimating me to be an advantage.

Sierra, you crack me up!!! ;D I find the same thing happens to me all the time; people don't realize I have a brain and know how to use it - comes as quite a shock to them, too, I can tell you!! LOL. The worst thing someone can do to me is to call me stupid!! In your vein, maybe I should cahnge my hair from blonde.... Kris

Leave your hair blonde!
Like I said it doesn't hurt to be underestimated when it comes to school meetings. You can catch them with their pants down. Being able to put them at a disadvantage at just the right time during the negotiations can be very useful.

Hey gang-
Here is a good one. Only once has our son had "the teacher from hell!" But, I won't go into that. It was last year that he had this teacher. She way underestimated me. Finally at one of our end-of-the-year meetings, she eluded to the fact that she didn't believe in ADHD or anything like that. When a " Discussion" followed, she looked at me and she told me that IF our son had ADHD, his aggressions were certainly inherited from his mother. Well, I looked at her and said; "That may very well be true and someday when Mark meets his BIRTHMOTHER I will let her know what you think!! What joy I had in that--to say her face turned red is an understatement! Anyway, I enjoyed that moment way to much!!!
Sierra, I just gotta luv your attitude! You make me laugh most every time I read your posts about your sprouts!
Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas to you too BBW! I bet yours is whiter than mine!
We may have something worked out now. I'm stewing on it over the holidays. I'll sign the form saying IEP days are over if I still feel comfortable come January.
I near busted a gut laughing at the 504 coordinator. She allowed as how Li'l Sprout probably wouldn't be diagnosed with ODD these days since it isn't showing up in school.
1. It is showing up in school. Just not in his academic classes.
2. She never actually talked to him before the meeting we all attended. So she was going by his academic class teachers' reports. Where he behaves himself.
3. She thought I didn't know that a behavior has to show up in two environments. Home and extracurricular are two environments even if he behaves himself at school.
I busted a gut laughing. And suggested she talk to a couple of his non academic teachers. She backed off and started talking about how strong-willed kids may have an advantage later in life. I agree. But I don't like someone trying to bamboozle me. As long as I've been slugging it out in the IEP ring she should have known better than to try to pull a fast one even on such a small point.
I wasn't asking for ODD accomodations. She was just trying to put me off balance.
I love to see them backpedal themselves right into a brick wall. Nothing like seeing a sanctimonious prig of a counselor build a trap and then step right into it.
I'd end this post with a string of cuss words but I'm just a tad too ladylike for that.
Dadgum it I am not too ladylike! &$)@ &$^%!!!!!!

Sierra- My Christmas is REALLY white-good thing-Santa's sleigh needs snow to make quiet landings! As far as those teachers are concerned; I truly believe in some cases "ignorance is bliss!" I love to hear stories of parents conquering the world for their kids! It is so refreshing! Happy Holidays to you and yours! How do you guys celebrate-surfing, golfing, backyard barbecue............

We often go for a Christmas morning hike after we trash the house with boxes and ribbons and wadded up wrapping paper. We're usually a few hundred feet below the snow line. I planned it that way because I don't like shoveling snow. So Santa must land a few miles away and haul the loot down our way.
Maybe over on the coast they surf on Christmas Day. Personally I think the water on most of the Pacific coast is too cold and ill mannered to swim in. When the sprouts were small I grabbed an arm and hung on more than once when the tide tried to pull them right out.
Mississippi Gulf or Florida is more to my taste when it comes to beaches.

Hey- It takes us days to re-coop from the boxes, ribbons, bags, and bows (gotta keep those bows)! We don't hike-we just move on down the line to the next house on our Christmas "hit list." This year it was beautiful outside-no wind, no bad weather, just a beaufidul 11 degrees F. Just right to be shuffling Christmas presents and food in and out of the car at our next stop! Gotta say though, by Christmas night, our little guy was ready for bed--well so was I! Now we can sit back and enjoy all of the new "toys" we all got until tomorrow--when we are off to my brother's house (about 2 hours away) and Sunday when we are off to my hubby's sister's house (about 1 hr. 45 min. away). So much for resting and enjoying our new toys!!! Hope your Christmas was happy! What did the sprouts get?

What did the sprouts get? Less than they asked for and more than they needed. L'il Sprout is still in the video and computer game phase. Bean Sprout has moved to CDs and guitar equipment. He got a microphone he can plug into his amp and distortion pedal too. He's been having a lot of fun distorting his voice.
