A couple weeks ago while I was outside cutting the grass my dh left to run into town for something. No sooner did he get down the street then he turned around and headed back. He stopped me and told me he had just seen a rattler as big as his forearm cross the street and go into the wooded area behind our house! I had stern instruction to remain in the front yard only and let him get beside the road in the back. No problem! Then last night at about 8 or 8:30 he started to head out into the front yard for something and when he opened the front door, there right under the porch area was a small snake! He said it looked right up at him and hissed as if to say, "hi, can I come in?" He immediately shut the door back (thank goodness we have a storm door he had not yet opened), went out the garage door, grabbed a shovel and headed around front to kill it. Thankfully he got it but said he couldn't tell what kind of snake it was, only that it was a little one. I don't care if it was little or not! All I could think of was how lucky we were that it wasn't Cami that opened that door because she would have just barreled herself on out not paying attention. On top of that, after he killed the snake he picked up a pair of flip flops I had left by the door and under them were a couple of scorpions. Scorpions are pretty common but they aren't the big deadly kind, just little ones that don't hurt. But still you don't want them hanging out by your door. All that activity reminded me of the armadillo Cami and I watched cross the road into our front yard, scurry across it into the back and into the woods yesterday morning while waiting for her bus. Geez! Animal kingdom running rampant at our house! If it keeps up I'll start selling tickets! ;D ;D ;D ...on second thought I think not. I think I'll go buy some sulfer or something to keep the snakes out of the yard.

I just went out to my car to get something and almost ran into a spider! We have this lovely dirt and gravel pit where I work that we have to park in. To the side of it but in the middle of my door and the fence I park my car against is a patch of pine trees. I was about to walk across it when in the middle I see a huge web with a spider right in the middle waiting for it's breakfast. Man! I'm staying inside from now on! ;D ;D ;D ;D As far as the rattler in the creek causing you to get out right quick.... I bet it did! ;D ;D ;D Mocassins are more common here in the water. We see them sunning sometimes on rocks while out on the less traveled parts of the river. Then of course we can see gators if we go to Lake Eufaula. ;D

yeah, Australia seems to have deadly animals no matter where you turn. Snakes, big scorpions, spiders and crocs on land... sharks and deadly jellyfish in the water. ACK!
Anne spent time in Australia as a child... she could probably give us some good stories!

As I am reading this my feet are slowly finding their way up underneath me and off the floor ;D ;D ;D. You know that song~~ "I don't like spiders and snakes..." well that is me ;D ;D ;D ;D I think it is neat that you had an armadillo in your yard. I would like to see that. Do they eat spiders and scorpions? If so that would be a plus to have it around .

Armadillos and possums are seen quite frequently around here, esp. in the morning on the sides of the roads! sorry! I'm grossing Linda out again.

One time our kitty was pursuing a rabbit across the yard when it made a B-line right for the road culvert. In went the bunny. In went my kitty. Out came the bunny, the kitty, a raccoon, and a possum After that kitty went on a leash. Miles

;D ;D ;D ;DAnd I bet the kitty was quite happy being in the leash all alone and in peace ;D Living in a small town, I´ve seen my share of rabbit´s(one at my garden yesterday) fox´s, (I only know the latin name for Lynx lynx???) and I saw a bambi´s mom (again dont know how to call her otherwice)at the other day too, she was running right toward´s me in a field, but luckily she desided to take a turn We had a cat all the neighbour´s called the terrorist, he used to chase all the other cat´s to tree´s and sit right under them, not letting them come down, he was also a bit of a hunter, used to drag dead snake´s to my parent´s doorstep, it´s quite scary to see a snake ont he porch before you know it´s dead ;D
