I always feel Sam is a little "flippant" with his views on life ... but tonight he came home from work (he works for the British Army during holidays and most weekends) and they had been expecting over 100 soldiers for dinner ... all the food was made and ready .. and the soldiers didn't arrive (this HAS apparently happened before!) ... Sam tells me that ALL THE FOOD WAS JUST THROWN AWAY!! He said "What gets to me is that that food would have given several hundred people in Africa a good meal ... and we just THREW IT AWAY!" ... I agreed and made a comment about how some countries (such as ourselves and of course also the US and Finland and all countries represented here) have soooo much and others (like many countries in Africa) have so little ... We also agreed that practically speaking we couldn't "just fly out" that food to Africa ... but the principle was still there !! .. Sometimes it sure seems wrong and the world is VERY lopsided!!

Anne, you´re right, it´s so unfair seem´s like we dont actually apresiate the thing´s we have anymore, we have enough food and clear water etc. so it´s easy to forget how good life is for us..... You´re right, we cant just post it to Africa but .... Hole world should react, but it begins with indiviual´s, so even if you feel powerless you´ve already started thinking about the problem and that´s a good start

Anne~~your right that is such a shame to waste all that food. To bad they couldn't give it to a homeless shelter or even let the workers take some home.

I worked part time once in a grocery store deli, and when we threw out leftover food, we even had to pour bleach on it, so no one could take it out of the garbage to eat it. It has something to do with the fact that the store could be sued if someone eats the food, (even if they take it from the garbage dumpster.) and no one wants to pay a lawsuit.

i was also thinking of a homeless shelter. but it does begin with one person, one thought, one action. i do understand that we have so much here and others have so little. and while i'm glad we help less fortunate countries, i wish we made sure our own were taken care of before giving out millions in aide to people who hate us and are willing to kill us. karen
