;D ;D ;D could we arrange a meeting "yearly wooden spoon conferens " mayby ;D I have to echo Christy by asking Linda: DO YOU REALLY CONSIDER US NOT NUT´S in a good way mayby... but nut´s still ;D About spanking; we have actuall law´s against the spanking, so if you aks me, I´ve never done that It´s really against the child protection law´s and spanking "in public" could get you in serious trouble. I dont agree 100%, I think there´s a difference between abusing and punishment, but I´am no lawmaker

Do you know that according to medieval English law you were allowed to beat your wife as long as the rod you used wasn't bigger around than your thumb?
My mother used to chase me down with a wooden spoon and also a hairbrush. There wasn't anything funny about it. It was just plain scary. It's being scared that I remember much more than any pain she caused. I don't think she ever realized she was terrifying me half to death. But I won't hit because of it. Or to be honest I should say I spank very rarely and only under exceptional circumstances.
I wapped my 4yo's bottom a couple of weeks back because she was biting Challenge Boy and wouldn't turn him loose. HE didn't hit her (which is pretty amazing considering his impulse-control problems) but I did. And then all of the boys just stared at me like I was some kind of monster and started in with, "Jeez, Mom, you didn't have to HIT her!" I felt like a monster for giving her a single smack on the bottom. Even Challenge Boy, with big red teeth marks on his arm, thought I was an awful meanie.
I don't remember my father hitting me ever, not even once, not even when I totally and completely deserved it (which was often). Interestingly enough, he was the one with the most power to control my behavior. It was always a lot easier for me to take a good whacking than to suffer my dad's quiet disapproval. He has the same effect on Challenge Boy, who NEVER acts up when my father is around. I wish I had that mysterious power!

They still give out lashes for punishments for crimes in Japan and the orient. I wonder if that would be a deterrant in our country if that were a punishement. And what about the courntries that cut off body parts for the crime? I think we are a pretty tolerant society. Miles
