I dont know if they are doing it nation wide...but on the Christian radio station I listen to here..they are doing a deal for the month of August as a protest to the violence and just down right lewd or nastiness of television these days. They are going without television for the whole month of August. My kids are actually following the rules and didn't turn on the boooooob tube all day while I was out. I am very proud of them. I wander how it will be in two weeks..

My son loses himself in books. What a great way to get away for a while. Seems like whenever Nate watches TV he gets so angry and snippy. Good for your kids for taking the initiative. I went over two years without watching TV once and I can honestly say I found a way to fill the time. Miles

I also love to read books so I think I could do it but as I sit here waiting for my new shipment of books from ebay to arrive I find myself watching more tv then normal. I MUST watch Match Game PM and the View. I have also discovered the Hallmark channel. Very good movies on there as well. I am taking the drs. order to heart and not doing much. As for the kids giving up the tv~~~I only see that happening once school starts although the fair is in town and I haven't seen Levi since 10:00 am. He loves helping his cousins wash the cows to get ready for show day.

I hadn't heard of this, although I would love it! Does it count if you rent a movie for them? Whenever my kids are consistently having sibling issues, I'll lock out cartoon network and nick for about a month. I swear it makes a huge difference in their behavior. I just haven't figured out why I let them get those 2 stations back... I pretty much can't stand tv, I rarely watch it, although my husband is an avid channel surfer!

We didn't have tv the whole ten years we lived in Texas but that was our pre kid days . No one has missed it all evening so I think it will go well.

Mikey gets the same way Miles. Nasty, impatient But we got the digital cable deal......and after the 6 monthjs is over.....so is the digital. BUT I locked out all of the obnoxious cartoon channels.....was even tempted to lock out Disney with some of the things they have....not bad, just obnoxious

This sounds great! I hope people do it and learn that they're a lot better off without it. We don't watch much except the news. The kids watch videos all the time.
