Hey Sorka ... this is fun !! ... THANKYOU!! My first thought was a "cross" ... but first I think we have to define the word "Symbol" ... because I too am wondering whether a "stripe" is a "symbol" !!

Oh now come on Anne!! You translate 'symbol' for me.. this question is coming from an English woman you know!! As far as it goes.. there are:
crosses 38 stars 62 stripes 141 crowns 6 lions 7 birds 12 suns 23 crescents 14
So you can see that stripes outnumber everything! But stars are second.
(this is coming from an official flag expert..
"I am not sure if you would count stripes as a "symbol" or as the field of the flag, and many of the crosses are there because the flag contains a union jack in the canton. However, it seems clear that stars are the commonest - almost one-third of national flags make use of them."
Waddya think?? Quick poll.. are stripes a symbol or not???heheh

;D Denise !! (oh and by the way that blog is just GREAT reading!! THANKYOU for sharing that!! ) BUTTTT.... Back to flags for a minute ... Wellllll ... speaking for MYSELF here I would not really consider a "stripe" as a symbol ... in which case I would say that STARS wins the day!! ... but then again I cannot speak for the "mind" of my "fellow english person" !! ;D ;D

AAAAHhhh.. mabye I should just send her the list and let her decide.. but hey.. that answer from the vexiologist.. (flag expert) leans toward stars! D
PS. Personally I am thinking she is biding her time till she gets the Times on Saturday and gets a Two Brains question out of it!!

PS. Personally I am thinking she is biding her time till she gets the Times on Saturday and gets a Two Brains question out of it!! ;D ;D ;D Now THAT wouldn't actually surprise me at all !! ;D ;D Hey are you allowed a "fuller" answer? i.e. "If stripes and crosses are considered "symbols" then stripes win ... however if they are not .. then it HAS to be STARS !!" ;D

My first thought was crosses, but after seeing the stats I vote for stars. I don't think a stripe is a symbol.
