I can relate to a lot of this...Can You?
Here's what a night time scenerio might be like:
Lets see. Ok, both the kids are home and in bed. The dog is in her crate. The cat's food bowl is full. Did I fill the water dish? Oh well, if I didn't, she can drink out of the toilet again. Toilet. Oh yeah, I just cleaned it, it's ok. Have to remember to flush the drain in the sink again though.
Oh, and it's garbage day the day after tomorrow, so must remember to empty the bathroom garbage. Gee, have to remember to buy a new garbage can - the last one got run over when I forgot to bring it in from the road. Wonder how the roads will be for the drive to work. What was the weather forecast for tomorrow? I hope they are right about the weekend - we have that trip planned for Saturday. Have to make sure the oil in the car is ok, and the gas tank filled. Clean the garbage out of the car too.
Did I put the car payment in the bank on time this month? Have to remember to check the bank book tomorrow. Wonder if Sally at the bank has had her baby yet. I saw the cutest baby outfit at the department store last week, I could buy it for her. Hmmmm, think I need laundry soap too, will have to pick that up at the same time. Oh yeah, have to remember to wash all the towels before Saturday, and make sure everyone has clean clothes.
Gotta fold that pile of laundry on the couch. And need to ask DH to fix the broken leg on the couch before his parents visit next week. Holy! What am I going to make for supper when they come? What do we have left in the freezer? Guess it's time to do some grocery shopping again. Yuck! Man, I really need to get to sleep. Did I remember to lock the doors?..........
Someone will be talking about something important and I want to ask them if they found the new socks they wanted. Or did they notice the pink flowers over there. The best is during intimate relations and I want to remind hubby of all sorts of things and ask questions since I can easily resume the mood but he can't so have finally learned to shut up.
Hyper and also Multi-dimensional mind - not just multi tasking. But I will be carrying on a conversation and will answer a question in the conversation 2 feet or 20 feet from me without missing a beat in my conversation.
Hyper mind? While brainstorming session I spew out tons of ideas and of different varieties compared to the linear thinkers.
The doctor told me I've got a hyperactive mind. but it's hard to say what it's like since I've got nothing to compare it to. There are some things I have problems with though that I've noticed aren't a problem for what I've been told are normally active minds. If I'm talking about something, and I'm really getting into what I'm saying, and then suddenly the person I'm talking to asks a question or cuts in with an idea of their own, it throws me off track. I forget what my point was. While I'm trying to remember what the point was, I forget what we were talking about. Conversation over. It's frustrating for both parties involved.
Constant, stream-of-consciousness thought where one topic or thought very easily brings to mind another, regardless of their tenuous link. I think maybe being an ADDer makes association between unlike thoughts, facts, and concepts much easier. Maybe that's why we're so good at seeing conceptual wholes--we drag all those miscellaneous facts together and they form a giant picture.
Often once I get a whole picture I'm so excited and enamored of the idea that immediately I forget or lose the logical order ("steps") that lead up to it, so I lose all ability to logically explain it to someone else. Or else I can try to tell them, but it comes out in fragments which I just start spewing out to the other person first, and THEN rearrange those in front of them to try to make some sense for them.
