Li'l Sprout is officially cured. So says the school psychologist and special ed teacher. Most of his diagnostic test scores have improved dramatically since way back when. So they want to write him up as a success story and pat everybody on the back and throw confetti and wash their hands of us. They want to send him on his way without even a 504 plan. They've got another think coming on that one I've contacted the psychologist we pay the bill for to discuss turning the important parts of his IEP that relate to classroom and test accomodations into a 504 plan. We need to discuss the areas that are still weaknesses too. He's got some oddball weaknesses. But danged if he hasn't grabbed middle school with both hands and gone to town! I'm mixed up inside about this. I'm proud of him for overcoming so many problems. I'm glad all the money we spent on remediation helped. I'm sick to my stomach that some big problems were missed first time around because there were some gargantuan problems overshadowing them. I'm P.O.ed at myself for not pushing for some additional testing last year when new gaps started to really show. Anyhow I'm getting out the pointy hat and broom. Time to remind this district why it's not a good idea to try to bamboozle me. DH is practicing his cheesy grin and blank stare. We've found the good cop bad cop routine helpful in the past.

LOL!!! You know I can almost picture this!! I am glad he is doing so much better in school, and yes you should still fight for him!! You dont want him to lose what he has gained with the accomodations if they dissappear!! Good luck

Mikie's eval eval is due in Sept 04. They would not retest since he has been progressing slowly. They said if he was regressing than it would warrant testing. They just need to work harder with him and he needs help with number and letter reco.

Snarl
I've left two messages for our psychologist and haven't heard back yet. The last message was a little on the tart side.
I may have to go into the next phase without his input if he doesn't get off his duff.
Schools out for a week for Thanksgiving so I have a little breathing room. But the school's going to want either questions or signatures after that. I can wing it but I'd rather have some expert advice.

At last! Got a call back from the psych. I take the test results from the school testing over today. Then we sit down and talk on Monday. One step closer to really deciding if an IEP is no longer needed. If the answer is yes then we'll decide what we think a 504 plan should look like. No dang way Li'l Sprout is going to do without a safety net this year or next. They can't fool me. I know what the demands on the students are this year and next. It's like they forgot I have an older sprout a couple grades ahead in the same school.
