Ds (6) is repeating Kindergarten this year. Last year he was in half day Kindergarten and half day early childhood. As last year went on he became more and more defiant until he quit doing the work. The teacher could not recommend that he go into 1st Grade. So this year, his IEP had that he was to do one hour of occupational therapy, and one hour of behavioral therapy (BT) per week. The behavioral could be upped as needed throughout the year. Things were going pretty good, and then he had a bad day and was sent to BT to finish is work. They set up some reward system for when he finished his work. So now he is acting up more and more, I think because he get one on one from a cute teacher. He is a smart cookie, and I think that he has found a way to manipulate the system once again and get a reward out it. I know that learning is supposed to be a fun. Something just doesn't seem right and I cannot put my finger on it. Miles

Sounds like my son, who turned out to have severe dyslexia, in addition to ADHD. His bad behavior was related to not being able to learn in the way the school was teaching. He acted up, he escaped to the bathroom, etc.
Have learning disabilities be considered?

Sounds like my guy! DS knows - if given an inch - how to take a mile. He is a tiny, cute little guy - and let me tell you - he knows how to work it! (I have to warn the teachers in advance that he can work the system.) Godd luck1

Sounds to me like your boy could be working the system to maybe get a quieter work environment. A regular classroom can be real torture to a kid with ADHD. It's noisy and confusing and embarrassing if you can't figure out what you're supposed to be doing. If he has an LD that makes him stand out among the other kids he might be even more motivated get out of the classroom.
Might be interesting to find out if he acts out and gets out at a particular time of day or when particular activities occur in the classroom.
Li'l Sprout used to get sick to his stomach every afternoon in 1st grade. This was when they usually went from the math and science to the language and social studies and art part of the curriculum at his school.
He'd spend a half hour to an hour on a sofa with a picture book while the rest of the kids worked on writing and reading. It had been suggested to me he might have a gluten problem. But once he was diagnosed and his meds were figured out he never had another tummyache at school unless he was getting sick. I think it was stress because he couldn't handle the parts of class where the kids worked together and his problems were harder to cover up in front of his friends.
