Hello Everyone My name is Amy, and I have an 8 year old son named Jake, who has ADHD and Anxiety Disorder. He was diagnosed last November, but I have suspected for waaaay longer than that..lol! I have been homeschooling him since last October due to his extreme anxiety regarding being in school. Some days I just wanna pull my hair out....but he is actually thriving in the home-learning environment. Jake was prescribed medication upon his diagnosis, however he only took one month's worth. The side effects were more than I could bear.....weepiness, crying, mood-swings, etc. So we are med-free and dealing with life one day at a time. I also have an 18 month old son named RJ who is already showing early signs of ADHD as well I'm not surprised, since I have ADD myself...lol!! My poor husband has a hard time keeping up with all of us ;D Well.....I'm so glad to finally find this board...and I can't wait to meet all of you Amy Howard

Amy - Welcome. I think you'll find - as I have - that this forum helps you keep your sanity!
I'd recommend you explore the "Natural Alternatives" section of this board since you're not using meds. If you aren't doing so already, you can have an amazing impact on ADHD symptoms simply by changing your child's diet and adding the appropriate nutritional supplements.
Glad you're here. --Cat--

Welcome aboard Amy ;D Adhd is a lot of fun ;D Good luck with your homeschooling. I am sorry your son had a bad experience on the meds. From experience with Brooke (7 yo), I know it is no picnic. This board is an excellent source of info on all things ADHD. It is also the worlds best place to vent when you need to blow off steam. I feel like I was thrown a life preserver 2 weeks ago when I found it. ;D Again, welcome aboard. ;D

Welcome Amy!!!
I hope you will find this to be a place of comfort and support!! I have 5 kids ranging in age from 7 months to 9 years. My ds9 has ADHD/ODD/and Depression. We are weaning off our meds now and I am beginning to homeschool soon myself. I understand-as many of us here do-the stress and heartbreak that go along with the beautiful babies we were given! The many many people here are great and I agree with Dad2Brooke... This is definately my life preserver!!! Hope to get to know you!!
