I wanted to ask this in your original post, but replies are not possible so I'll ask here.
It is not in Honey's IEP, but the school is telling me that if he does not reach his speech goals by Christmas break they are moving him to Early Childhood. My problem with this is the teacher, Honey is scared to death of her. If it was not in his original IEP, and no modifications or meetings with me and the school took place, can they force me to switch him? I know putting him in this class would make school terrible for him.
Thanks, Becky

NO they can not force you into switching your child... The IEP is what they have to go by for one year, unless there was a modification that yes you have to agree too....
Now are they going to switch him fulltime?? Or just an hour a day or something??
Does the school have access to a speech therapist? Early childhood I dont think has the same resources as and actual speech therapist...
If this is not going to work well for you son, KNOCK some heads together girl!! The entire point of an IEP is to meet YOUR childs individual needs, and you are going to know that better than they are... Good luck and let me know!!

We are really lucky here. Our school has a fulltime speech and language therapist. The Early Childhood and 4K run together. EC is every morning from 8-1. 4K is 2 days a week, all day. I think I will wait and see how his next progress report is. If they still try to switch him, I'll have to come up with "plan B." Thanks for your help, now at least I know it is not OK for them to just switch im on me and that makes me feel better...Thanks... BTW: They want to switch him full time, a new classroom and all. Before I agree to any of that I am going to check out the possibility of me bringing him in myself on non-school days.
