As most of you know I work at a further education college ... where my own son Sam goes to ... he is in his 2nd year ... and at work we have made a lot of comments about the fact we do NOT like the new intake "generally" speaking this year !! ... (Funny how a whole "year" of pupils gives and either good or bad feel!) Anyway, today at lunchtime I took a 5 minute walk to a local shop .. It was 1:25 p.m. and several groups of our students were leaving the local park to go back to college (obviously they were due back at 1:30) ... There were quite a lot of them ... Anyway I was walking along minding my own business on the OTHER side of the road when suddenly a fairly large stone came hurling at me and hit me WHAM in the neck !! ... I was completely shocked but also ready for an apology ... but OMG I sure didn't get one!! Some of the students in the 'other' groups honestly looked visibly shocked and worried ... but the three or four in the group where the stone had "come from" just collapsed into hysterical laughter!! ... they then went walking on up the street just doubled up with laughter!! ALL I could think of to shout out was "THAT JUST ISN'T FUNNY!" .... (I know .. pathetic response! ... but I was just kind of stunned by what had happened!) ... I also have a large bruise on my neck to show for it!! Anyway ... I got back to work where my colleagues and my boss were absolutely OUTRAGED !! ... My boss got on the phone to EVERYONE she could think of ... and meantime I filled out an incident report ... Of course we got the response to a degree of "Unfortunately it was OUTSIDE of the college premises and she (me) was on my lunch hour which is her own time" !! ... I kind of KNEW that would be the response ... but I pointed out that I wanted to REPORT this because for all I know this might be happening EVERY lunchtime with this small group of morons!! I am wondering whether to tell Sam or not ? I think he might be VERY upset if he thinks anyone from his own college had done that to his Mum ... So far I have kept quiet !!

WOW!! How awful for you!! I think I'd be giving the police a call.....! I'd hate to think that any of my children would ever behave like that. I wonder what the kids' parents would think?

Oh Anne...how alful for you. Did you need to seek medical attention? I hope they catch the little "punks" who did this to you!! As far as telling Sam....yes because he is going to hear about it anyway. But I know Sam...he is going to be outraged that his mum was the victim of some very immature idiots!!

Oh my Anne!! Did you get a good look at any of them?..could you point them out?...is so, maybe you can file a police report. That is considered assault. Maybe, this would give those morons a really good scare. I wouldn't tell Sam only because he might then start looking for those kids and who know where that may lead to. Gabriel is very protective of me. He will always try his best to walk away from trouble...except if it involves me. If anyone does anything even minimally rude to me in front of him, he is very quick at putting that person in his/her place...LOL..

It must have been a day for throwing things!!! I was taking a 1st grader in to the nurse and a 3rd grader hurled a walnut at me and hit me in the leg!! Anne ...don't let it go....I don't think it should make a difference whether you were on your own time or not!! You would be surprised on how many of the good kids would be willing to "snitch" on the morons!!

Oh you guys are just the best !! Linda ... it is so strange you should say that about the good kids being ready to snitch on the bad ... because the ONE PERSON I actually WOULD recognise again was strangely one of the "good guys" ... i.e. a kid from "another" of the groups of students in that area at the time who was one of the ones who REALLY looked absolutely HORRIFIED !! ... If I see him again I would recognise HIM instantly and yet strangely I just know couldn't recognise the baddies again ... !! My mind sort of "homed in" on the guy who was looking so sympathetic!! ... Oh but YOU TOO had someone hurled something at you today!! OMG !! Is the moon in a funny posibion or ... ? S/A and Joshua ... as for the police ... OMG you really have a point here .. apparently LAST year for a while that park area (which is VERY near the college) was for a while patrolled by the police at lunchtimes ... (Isn't that AWFUL that it is even necessary?) ... but my boss pointed out today that maybe it will need to be done again THIS year !! .. It sure will be a sad thing if this has to happen again this year... but then again if its necessary then I will very willingly add my own 2 cents worth to stop this kind of thing from happening to someone else and possibly with far worse consequences!! As for Sam ... when I continued on my walk (after this incident) I then met him and a friend at the sandwich shop further down the road and he called out "Hi Mum" ... and my gut reaction was to run over and say "Sam!! Guess what just happened to me a few minutes ago?" ... but I somehow didn't ... I just grinned and waved and left it there ... !! Linda you are SOO right Sam would be outraged ... and Joshua I agree he could very well REACT badly to that which would send the whole thing flying into somewhere I just don't want him to go!! ... Sooo ... I just HOPPPPE that he doesn't hear anything about it .... One thing I know to the very best of my knowledge is that these kids were NOT known to him and are definitely not on his course or even in his department..... These kids were clearly due back to college at 1:30 .... so they obviously have a 12:30 - 1:30 lunchhour ... whereas Sam's course and department has its lunch hours from 1:00 to 2:00 ... soooo.... totally different class ... totally different department so I don't think he "knows" them at all!! PHEW !!

Annie..I'm so sorry I didn't see this earlier! I've been emailing a teacher of Cami's back and forth this afternoon. .... Another thread....Anyway, I'm glad you're ok! I agree with the others about filing a police report of possible. What if this rock had hit you in the eye? the temple? You shouldn't let it go..if the school can't do anything then enlist the police. If this IS a regular occurance it HAS to be stopped before someone IS badly hurt, and even if it isn't..the ones that did it to you need punishment regardless!

I am glad you are okay...it could've been worse . Getting hit by a rock and having a bruise is nothing o really mess with...any bruise neck and up should be checked in case of clotting... I know that you dont want Sam to know so I understand why you wouldn't want to draw a large amount of attention BUT these things tend to escalate and someone could be seriously hurt or killed if things keep up. By college age these kids should know better..shouldn't they?? Take care when you walk they may want another try.

Hi Anne,
That is totally rediculous. They should have been picked up and booked immediately. If I was there Sam and I could have those punks begging for forgiveness. If I would have been there when they did that I would have whooped their asses till I got tired, took a break and started again. Sorry that happened to you, George

I have read this thread about 5 times, trying to come up with something more than steam rolling out of my ears. AMSMOM is right... this is a pathalogic event. This is worse than bullying, because it is being done by "mature" kids, against an adult. It is a terroristic event... and that is what our township police called it when it happened here. Those kids are acting out against your fears, and today your life is different because of their act. You will be watching over your shoulder for something flying at you, you will alter where you go and what you do on your lunch hour. It IS NOT ACCEOTABLE that the college has chosen not to act. There must be something in either your contract or the students code of conduct that can be used to deal with this. It should never be acceptable to attack a staff member on or off grounds. There was a lady I used to work with who was involved in a terrible car accident on her way to work, due to her own negligence. But the law clearly stated that the employer was responsible for the health care of the woman because she was injured while reporting directly to work... maybe the college doesn't want to acknowledge the incident, because the truly are FINANCIALLY obligated to deal with the repercussions (I know that we are in different countries, and the laws are likely different, but it will calm down all of US, your friends, to know that the college has taken this terrorism seriously!) We love you and are angry and hurt because of the injustice. If you were to have a jury of YOUR peers, this guy and his gang would go DOWN!
