We got the results of DS's evaluation yesterday. He is ADHD (with hyperactivity) with a little thread of anxiety. The doc says that might be the result of the ADHD. I thought this evaluation would tell definitely if there is an auditory processing problem, but it didn't. The docs recommend further evaluation on that. Their only treatment recommendations right now are the standard: classes (behavior mod) and meds. DH and I haven't read through all the results and discussed our next action yet. Just thought I'd let you know.

THANKYOU for letting us know .... How do you feel about the evaluation? Is it a relief to know or do you have mixed feelings or ... ?? Skay ... even though you have "known" or suspected for sometime I always think that the "official diagnosis" is a particularly significant time ... So keep talking to us ... we are right here !!

I'm not sure how I feel. I'm not sure that I feel relief because this is only the beginning, and we are really even done evaluating yet, I guess. I think I'm more concerned about the "language receptivity" problem because I think that's the worst in him. He really has trouble understanding and following instructions. Maybe I will feel better if DH and I can agree on a course of action. And then, of course, I'll feel better if we can start seeing results.

Hmmm I see just what you are saying Skay .... i.e. that you haven't had your MAIN concern properly addressed yet!! What does the "further evaluation" entail for that? Have you got anything set up or is it too early to ask that yet?

Skay, I´am glad to know that you´ve got the result´s. Althought it might seem frustrating and scary to think about what´s coming on with this, the reality is, obviously, that you´ve lready lived this life, now you know what´s going on and you have the result´s to help you demand al the help he need´s and is titled to

Skay, I'm glad to hear you have gotten though yet another step of getting help for your son. Just keep an open mind with hubby because it is a big pill to swallow seeing that official dx and having to come to grips there is something"wrong" with your child. Take your time, talk it through, and keep that light at the end of the tunnel in full view because you are halfway there!

Believe it or not we all come to "grips" with ADHD....if we didn't we would all be nuts!! ;D ;D ;D

Skay, I think one of the eye-openers is when you see the dx in black and white. It kinda makes ya stand up and take more notice. I certainly hope the behavior mods they come up with will work and I think that they do with MOST of the ADHD children. Our child psychiatrist promises if we keep at it that the lightbuld will come on one day. I pray he's right!! Hang in there and remember we have cheerleaders, broom riders, and lots of tissues!

Thanks, StrugglingAgain. We really need to get him some help SOON. He brought home some tests and quizzes today. He did get an A (on spelling) and a couple of B's, but he also got a couple of D's and F's. I quizzed him and he knew most of the answers.
One of the first things the doc said was to make a schedule. I had already done that and posted it on the frig. (There isn't much time on there for me to be at the computer--we'll see how that works out; it hasn't stopped me so far!)
