You know safety wise in a car the one thing that makes the most difference is being able to directly see everything that is in the driving path going backwards or forwards. Most of the accidents I have seen were from the driver assuming the driving path was clear. It's like when you pull up to a stop light and there is a car stopped on the oncoming traffic side that makes it impossible for you to see if there is a car coming on the lane on the other side of it. If you are turning and the other car is turning, you have to wait unil it is safe for sure or gamble that you will get smashed. The same is when people back up without turning their head around to see everything for sure. What if a small child was back there that couldn't be seen in a rear view mirror. So I guess what I'm saying is twist the neck instead of guessing. My father was my driver's education teacher.

You are so right george!!! Paul uses the mirror and then twists his neck around to look. He also "scans" everything around him.

Thanks Cheryl... !! and Linda and George I HEAR YOU .... Just this morning we witnessed a friend of Sam's who lives in the neighbourhood come tearing out onto the junction where we live on his moped... he did not look AT ALL ... there was a car coming down the road which honestly missed him by inches and only because the car driver was fast enough to slam on his brakes !! ... Sam does often say that this particular friend is a real " Daredevil" ... but I seriously fear for this boy's safety tearing around like that on a very vulnerable moped!!
