Do you realize that it was my NON ADD kid who was hit by a car while riding his bike? He saw the lady backing out of her drive way and couldn't react in time. She didn't see him at all because of a brick wall along her drive way (that's another story too... it is only ONE FOOT high)
As for the pain... I think it hurt me a lot more and a lot longer than it hurt him... and he was in pain for 9 weeks!
And he still won't get on a bike again. Poor kid... he used to love riding, but now he is getting a bit heavy and doesn't go out to ride for exercise.
We all have to trust that God will guide us to protect them in the best possible way, and that his plan includes at least 80 more years of walking on Earth!

So true--I'm afraid of causing more anxiety for DS, though. I'm still not sure how far to take these discussions. Once when I was talking about talking to strangers he started getting scare. I tried to make it as matter of fact as possible and have sort of a "this probably will never happen, but . . ." attitude, and he still gets scared. I did remember a not-so-scary way that he learns about these topics--like strangers. In the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang a bad guy used sweets to lure kids into his wagon so he could imprison them (kids were illegal in Bulgaria--not really true, of course). We used this for a brief discussion about not talking to or taking candy from strangers. So using books and movies helps us.

[My parents are making a 550 mile trip today, and I asked my MOM to call ME when she gets in... this "sandwich generation" is starting to drive me nuts! I worry about my almost 15 y.o. and about my 75 y.o. Dad too! I love CLAIROL... I'm too young to be this gray![/quote] This is ME - Sandwich City! My kids are 10, 7, and 16 mos and my mom is 85. Yikes! I've had my mom with me since July 4th and I can't take it anymore! She's worse than any of the kids...has fallen 3 times (no serious injuries, but one ER visit), etc. I am driving her home this weekend and sorry to say, will not bring her back for a prolonged visit. I am one of 4 kids, and the only one with kids younger than highschool age, but I'm the one it all falls to...Grrrr. It's terrible to have to worry on "both ends." Kris

Sandwhich generation..I have my gramma ,my parents, my dh and my kids ..and a bottle of hair color on the counter that has been there since march. I am also one of four and the only one who is grown up enough to care or see a need. Here is one ..night before last i let Jared go to the park with a few kids he plays with...it was a quiet evening and we were out in the yard working in the garden so i thought whats the big deal...a friend of mine stopped by and just at that time Jared and a new playmate a bit older than him walked up. My friend waited till the kids were out of sight and let me know that the kid happened to live next door to her and had a "record" and was in "therapy" for molesting several other little boys. OMG He may never leave my sight again!
And my dad had the audacity to inform me that I was sure going gray early.. yesterday. well duh!
