I have a little book. It is called "Life's Little Instruction Book" by H.Jackson Brown Jr. (originating in Tennessee I see) ... It is a whole book of suggestions, observations and reminders "on how to live a happy and rewarding life" written by a father for his son on leaving for college ... (but is just as applicable for daughters)
Here are a few examples:
" Don't expect the best gifts to come wrapped in pretty paper"
"Hold your child's hand as often as you can. The time will come all too soon when he or she won't let you"
"Remember that the person whol steals an egg will steal a chicken"
"In disagreements fight fairly. No name calling"
"When you have the choice of two exciting things, choose the one you haven't tried"
"Meet regularly with someone who holds vastly different views from you"
"Remember that everyone you meet holds an invisible sign. It reads 'Notice me. Make me feel important'
" Don't expect anyone to know what you want for Christmas if you don't tell them"
"Overpay good baby sitters"
"Learn three knock-knock jokes so you will always be ready to entertain children"
"Listen to your critics. They will keep you focussed and innovative"
"No matter how old you get, hug and kiss your mother whenever you greet her"
"When you get really angry, stick your hands in your pockets" ...
" Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship"
"Be as friendly to the security guard as you are to the Chairman of the Board"
...... and the list goes on ... I think this is an AMAZING little book ... and would really recommnd it ... In the meantime any "additions" to Life's Instructions for our kids ??
