So what do you pay in your neck of the woods for childcare?
We live in Richmond Virginia.
Brooke has "after school" care at the YMCA. They pick her up at school and take her to the "Y" and I pick her up there. She is there for about 2.5 hours a day and I pay $76 per week.
Before she started school, back when she was in preschool/daycare (at a church) I was paying $110.00 a week. Newborns are about $160.00 a week in a facility.
Rates are cheaper if you go with a home childcare provider, but then you wind up in jams when the sole provider gets sick or wants a day off. Home providers around here are about 10 - 15% cheaper and if they don't claim on their taxes are usually 20 -25 % cheaper.
What do you pay and where do you live?

When I was working I had an in home sitter. She charged me $50 for my little guy. After I had my DD I had changed sitters and she charged me $110. By then my little guy was in school, so she only had him in the mornings and afternoons. I'm getting ready to babysit this summer (for SIL) and will charge her $65 a week. Not bad for Kentucky.

I pay $30 week for after school care at my son's elementary school. (I'm in FL) When school is out, like the upcoming spring break, I pay $ 70 week for a county parks camp program. There is a much more fun nature camp at the community college, but I can't afford the $125 week.
I paid about the same thing for pre-k that you did Ralph. I found out later that the local public schools have free pre-k programs. I wish I had known then!

OK, I HAVE TO ADMIT I PAY NOTHING. Major benefit of running the program. Anyone with kids that works for me doesn't have to pay basic child care. I was goin to type the rates, but wasn't sure if that would confuse anyone, it does for new parents. If you want me to I will Kaiti

Mine are a little too old for child care. They have both watched other children. DD will be 11 and has co-babysat with a friend. Both are expirenced with kids and the mother was only down the road at the laundry mat. DS will be 14. Back a few years ago I paid $60 per week, school or not. The babysitter was my best friend from high school and was wonderful. I have never found anyone as good as her. I then took 4 years off to say at home with the kids. I went back to work 3 years ago and for 2 years worked at the school where my kids were and had the same time off as they did.

Hi My ds goes to an after-school program about 10 days/month, 6€/day(1€=a little over 1$). dd5 and dd2 are on daycare provided by community 10 days/month,, I´am not so sure how much is that(hubby pays the bill´s ) mayby 100€/month. Pre-school is free. I´d say it´s way too much ;D but kid´s are taken care, I dont have to panic with it, it´s community-supervised, daycare-personality is educated...... Everything has it´s fee! and this time shall pass way too quicker that I would like ;D Marja

I have got to tell eberyone out there with their kids in child care: I don't know how you do the summer stuff. I worked last summer as a favor to the summer SACC director. I didn't have to pay for care, but OMG trip fees and extras almost floored me. Thank good ness she only needs me for emergency coverage this summer, but holy moly,
My hat is off to all of you that incur all of the fees Kaiti

Thank heavens I don't have to pay for child care anymore!
During elementary school, Katie went to an afterschool program on campus. They received some state funding so were able to charge on a sliding scale for broke single parents (and I was very grateful), but otherwise was only $2.40/hour. Summer was more expensive, about $80/week, but they had lots of activities and took them swimming at the high school, and it was just wonderful. Wish they had something for the junior high set!

Last year I paid $140 for DD, who was 2 at the time, and $120 for Honey a week.
This year I have no one in daycare (thank goodness.)
In late August DD will start daycare again when I go to school, and it is $15/day for all day and $11/ for 1/2 day. That is the "student rate" at my school. At most it would cost me $75/week, meals included. I can't complain about that.
My friend pays over $300/week for her two kids in Detroit. No wonder they are moving to the UP in a few weeks..

wow I am kind of scared to post this here only in Quebec Canada our grouverment put alot in our daycares. We pay 7.00/day per child care no matter what age there are some private daycares that charge more mostly home daycares but I dont know why womeone would pay extra you can also find a home daycare associated that charges the 7.00 day rate there are so many.... schools also charge only 7.00 for extended day I dont need any I do sent DS for lunch at school and that cost 30.00 a month... summer camps have no gouv supl. so they are very expensive... you are looking anyware from 120.00 to 200.00 a week anything desent ranges around 180.00 under 180.00 the ratio is to much you are talking 15 to 20 per motinor if you go for the 150.00 and up you are looking at around 1 to 8 I was apying 180.00/week for last year and this year DS doesnt want to go HORAY! We dont have any preK here so if you want pre-k that cost alot I will be paying 900.00/year for pre-k next year but again if I didnt want to I could put him in daycare for 7.00 a day.... Kindergarden here is 5 full days so if you dont go to prek or someting its to hard on the child... other provinces are very different my SIL lives in Ontario and her daycare are so expensive I cant beleive it! there just 2 hrs away is so diff they have junior k a kinder but they only have 3 half days a week! it makes it very hard on the parents to find daycare...
