My Daughter, Taylor who is has been on concerta 18 mg and both her teacher and I agree that it is not really doing the job, I took her back to the dr yesterday and he switched her to Adderrall 5mg. We are starting her on one pill a day andd we may need to up it to 2 a day, well I went to go get it filled and with my insurance it is going to be 92 for 30 pills, now if we up it to 2 pills a day I am looking at almost 200 a month. This is unbelivable.
Anyway, I was wondering if there is anything else that I could try. Taylor is not really hyper, just lacks attention and we have to remind her to focus and such. A friend of mine mentioned natural alternatives and at this point i am willing to try anything.
Any suggestions anyone has would be great. thanks again.

Just wondering why the concerta wasn't increased. Isn't 18mg just a starting level. If it's not working than the amount is increased. My kid has the focus problem too. He's on 36mg. I tried some higher doses but didn't think the side effects were worth it. Since he still has problem completing work - just not as much without the meds, I'm starting in on the natural route. I'm hoping in the fall we can get away with 18mg or even better no medicine.

Jburke Take a look at our natural alternative´s-section, there is lot´s of good info in there, try f.ex. the "how to start" thread in there. If Adderal is not working, then you just have to start all over again, that is if you want to continue with med´s. This is such an trial and error to find a good working compination, Good luck for your shearch.

I found this board in the links section. It has a very informative complementary and alternative medicine section. I spent alot of time on both boards in this section. I believe the basic starting point on the natural route is: 1. multivitamin 2. Omega 3 supplement 3. magnesium supplement millermom.proboards23.com/index.cgi?board=Alternative

Does Adderall come in a 10 mg dose? if so see if your dr will let your dd take one dose a day instead of 2x a day. Another choice would be plain ritlian~~~has your dd tried that? It might be cheaper and with smaller doseages might be enough to get her "attention" to do her work. When my son was on concerta he had terrible headaches so we changed to strattera and he has been on that for over 2 yrs now. I did get a script from dr for 5mg of ritlian to help with big homework assignments but we have only used it 2x. Seemed to help since it is only a 4hr dose. Good luck!!!

Jared used to get stomache aches on 36 concerta..it was to do with when he took it and once we got it down that he had to eat first (atleast even a slice of toast) the tummy ache went away..

My DD and DS have been on the Adderal XR, and it works only for a short amount of time and then nothing. I am in the process of begging the docs to get my son off it, he is on 2 pills a day, 5mg each, its not even touching him. The Strattara didnt work for him either. good luck with yours, and I hate the fact the Adderal you cant get refills, you have to see the doc and have them hand you one, not good for someone who lives in the boonies.
