Well, this has been an interesting week. I noticed a little water in the basement on Sunday afternoon. I didn't think too much of it, this is our first winter/spring in this house. I woke up on Monday to a lake! It was all the way up to the second step from the bottom! There were things floating everywhere. Our dog literally would have drowned if he could not swim. My kids were floating bath toys down there! This was one little thing DH's boss forgot to mention when he told us this rental house was included in DH's benefits. I knew this offer was too good to be true. On top of all of that, I have not been a very good Fly-baby lately, and the lanudry was piled up, all nicely sorted, and then started to float around. Plus, all the boxes of stuff that never gets unpacked, like old stuff from high school was soaked. Well, after a full day of laundry, which was probably a shock hazard, and lots and lots of cleaning, we are just to the "really soggy" stage. All those water marks up the walls should've tipped me off. Oh well, this is par for the course in my life!! ;D Anyone know how to get rid of that wet and musty smell? Becky AKA, owner of the new Lake Becky!! ;D

Is there a charge to swim? ;D I hope not, I don't want to get attacked by a man-eating pair of jeans or anything I am trying to think of the smell thing. Do you have any way to air it out? Like windows to open and fans to blow just to get the air circulating and try to prevent mold. Even if you don't have any windows, you'd still be better of trying to let a fan, preferably a circulating one, to blow for a few days. Just point the fan at the window or up the basement steps, hopefully you have an outside door for entrance, that would be better to point the fan at. Well, not that I can come over and help, but you can pretend I'm there and when you are talking to yourself just tell the kids your talk ing to me ;D ;D Good luck getting it back together, I'm going to go look for some ideas for you with the smell Kaiti

WOW where did all that water come from? Last time we had a hose break on our washer and it proceded to soak our whole carpet downstairs for an entire weekend. We borrowed dehumidifiers and fans from anyone we could find and ran extension cords from different circuit around the house. That took care of the smell in about 3 days. This might be an opportunity to toss or give away a lot of stuff you don't ever look at. Hope your day brightens up Miles

Honeysmom, Wow!!! When we had a flood in our basement a couple of years ago we used fans and opened the outside door down there. Do you have a door to circulate the smell out? It would help in a couple of days... I agree with Kaiti, that when the children ask who you are talking to, tell them us. I know I can't physically help you clean up, but my thoughts are with you. Have fun Christina

Miles, You are in Wisconson also, right? Well, it has been so warm here that all of the snow melted really fast for the last few days. The house we live in has been moved here from another site about 17 years ago and all along one side it leaks. I guess DH is working with his boss to try and get some landscaping done so eveything is angled away from the house. Maybe I'll have better luck next year. I do have one of those outside doors going to the basement. I'll have to open it up for a while and use some fans. At least now everything is just wet, not floating. I also told DH to try and talk them into letting us take the carpeting out. It is just that indoor/outdoor stuff, but that is keeping the smell in. (I would assume it is junk anyway) I have hope that it will dry, it was bone dry when we moved here last July, so at worst only 3 or 4 more months of this...

Not fun...I remember a few years back we had so much snow on the roof that when it started melting some of it came under the shingles and into the house. It started with a few drips here and there and I happened to look in the dining room and it was pouring through the ceiling! Paul looked up at the pouring water and goes COOL!
