This dr was WONDERFUL!!!! She looked at all the testing that has been done and concluded that she doesn't have to do any additional testing. She has formally given him the diagnosises of ADHD, Auditory AND Visual Processing disorders and possibly a host of other diagnosises as he grows. She called it genetic loading and he unfortunantly got a load. Since her office is an hour away from us she immediantly got us an appt with a child psych that is closer. A miracle to get in on June 1st! We are also setting him up for OT and PT for the summer which insurance will pay for and sensory testing also. She also said that she usually recommends public school for these kids BUT in this case since he has the full support of the Catholic school and because of social issues, she supports him staying in his present school next year, then we will reevaluate. She also gave me the name of an advocate I can work with to ensure that he gets everything he is intitiled to from the public school system.
Then she recommended counciling for me again as I can't take care of him without taking care of myself first. Good point. She gave me the name of a woman psychologist that also works with grief issues. I came home and told dh about all this and he wants to be at Jake's first counciling appt to be more involved and he also suggested that we all be in counciling! Could have blown me over as this is a first! I finally feel like something positive is happening again, finally. It has been so long since we have been just a plain "normal" family. Maybe we can be again... My poor little Jake, to have to deal with all this at age 9. Tears my heart out but I can't live in sorrow about this, gotta go on and get him some help!
Thank you everyone, no one competely understands but those of us that live this. I am emotionally better, in part, because of all the support here.
God bless, Sue
