We're expected to wake up tomorrow morning to a foot or more of snow on the ground. Not unusual if you live in Canada or the northern U.S. but we live in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was 65 degrees and sunny a few days ago. Anyway, I've never seen anything like this. It was thundering, too, a few minutes ago. Thunder with snow? Anyway, school will be out again tomorrow and I was wondering what else is there to do besides take pictures, go sledding, build a snowman and call all the relatives. As southerners, we think this is a big deal and would love to experience this event to the fullest!
What other fun things can one do when there is this much snow on the ground? What do ya'll do up there in Canada when it snows this much?

snow forts...take wipes boxs and pack them like you would sand for a sand castle, and stack them on top of each other.
Either that or just sit and listen to the snow falling. It is quite a beautiful sound.
When out driving, keep back farther than usual. No sign language to idiot drivers, UNLESS they just passed you, and got them selves into a ditch up ahead, (make sure they are ok first) then "shoot birds" ;D

Thanks, guys. Forgot about hot chocolate. Better have some on hand because I doubt we can make it out of the driveway this morning. I think we've got about 16 in. on the ground now(in Charlotte of all places) with 2 more on the way before it's all over. It IS a beautiful sight. Never seen this much snow before. I love the idea of a snow fort. This will keep my daughter occupied most of today. Thanks for the idea! Our dog is part Samoyed(Russian sled dog). Maybe we should try to make one of the those long sleds, harness her up, and get her to pull us around the neighborhood. Any other thoughts?

ok, you can cheap out if you don't have a sled...... inner tube-like ones for the pool trash can lid BIG cardboard boxes-cut the sides off and hop on a side. oh,,,,,,,if you have food dye-let the kids mix up some colors and squirt thier names in the snow with dish soap type squirt bottles,ok, yes it will go away quicker, but if you have that much, you'll be thanking me later ;D UM, I'll be thinking for a while......God that's scary ;D Kaiti oh, if you are around animals, see who can find different types of tracks and identify them. Feed the birds, that's it for now

Make a lot of snowball´s then but them on a ring and built a place for candle to burn in, it´s beautifull!!! (mayby Rosyred already told you this, I had difficulties to understand the snowforth ) for kid´s; make them paddle a little path´s around the yard and then they can chase each other´s using only those path´s to run, there can also be "save"-place´s along those path´s. Some make it a circle, other´s use path´s around the yard(Ihope you get my meaning) Have fun!! Marja

Thanks, finnmom. I'll pass that along. Right now, my dd and her dad are building the world's largest snowman. His wingspan is about 20 feet long.

Thanks Marja, I do like that idea. Kaiti

I also agree with your not-clothes-enough; even in here some parent´s seem to think that child doesn´t need a hat or thicker jacket for winter-fun Marja
