I think the guards at the palace look great in their red jackets, black trousers and THOSE black hats BUT can you imagine how they must feel in those outfits on a hot summers day !! PHEW!! The other thing I find fascinating is how they have to stand for hours on end absolutely STILL !! .. (Guess it would NOT be a good job for an adhd'er! ;D ;D)

Those are so cute, Anne! Wow, that Mannekan piss has me speechless! Too funny!!! I dont mean to be the prude here, but is that not a "bad" word there? You know how we've discussed differences in our languages? In the US, piss is considered kind of crude slang. But I dont mean to offend anyone here, please!!! Just asking!!!

manneke pis, the little guy is just a fountains sins the 15th sensuri to give the people drincabel water. there Are diferend stories about him the first ledgend goes that he pied on the door of a witch and she was so mad she turned him in to a statue. the second ledgend goes that a man lost his son and found him back two days later while the boy was peeing. the father saw this as a sign of liberty and made a statue for his boy.
panneke pis has a few hundred ropes, also an elvis presley and a micky mouse outfit.
sometimes they make him pee beer to say thank you at the people that give him clothes
more I cant find imediately

Amsmom About that word, we dont use it in here at public, put it´s not considered as a "bad" word, mainly just to describe a little children making their bisnes. Uup´s it´s kind a difficult to put this in a proper way, since I, too, am a little worried of offending someone just because of the language But I know what you mean, I´ve seen some gang movie´s so I´am totally educated of your culture ;D O´kay, mayby not totally, but atleast in this matter. Isint it really funny that a person can learn about an other country by TV ;D this is indeed, a really amazing world ;D Marja

Wow !! THanks Anneke ... I am finding this fascinating ... I love the idea of the different outfits (including Mickey Mouse ) and also getting him to pee beer as a thankyou!! ... This is soooo neat ... Thanks for the information! Amsmom ... I am rolling up in laughter here ... because *piss* is also a crude slang in the UK but I think we have it spelt wrong!! From Anneke's note I think in the case of the statue it is spelt pis .... (Anneke ... please ... we need you again ... what does 'pis' actually mean?? - is it what we think it is or is it something different??) Oh dear !! (Tears rolling down cheeks!) I am wondering if this is a language faux pas!! P.S. Since writing this note Finnmom has just explained! .. but I must say it is the same in the UK as it is in the US ... Oh isn't the world wonderful sometimes with our different ways and languages !! ;D

Marja and I PM'ed each other about this and I think we are all laughing so hard we are going to live to very old ages (Marja reminded me that laughter makes you live longer!)
Anneke, I love the story about the statue!!! That is amazing! I had to laugh more when the history says it is to provide drinkable water, yet it is considered that the statue is modeled after a boy peeing!!! Thanks for the history lesson. Very, very cute!!!!
