When I was researching them before Christmas I had decided on a PS2. It has a lot of games, will play PS1 games, can play DVD's and was on sale.
However, I got a new computer instead.

Well - I believe that Playstation 2 has the most titles, xbox has great graphics - but I prefer the gamecube. It is small and portable (which is great when handing out a punishment - just unplug the cables and grab the handle . . . ) and of the three the more "rugged" if you can call it that. And it is much cheaper. Plus I like the titles on the gamecube more. We love Animal Crossings, Zelda and Mario which are only for Nintendo. One of my sisters has the playstation 2 but one of my other sisters and I have more fun on the gamecube. She is constantly looking for games like what we have. There are still great racing games and other things - I haven't found a lack of game titles yet. Plus - the gamecube can become interactive with the gameboy advance. They make what's called an ereader attachment for the gameboy advance and with a $9 cable you can hook it up to the gamecube and unlock things (in animal crossings you can unlock a new character or a new wallpaper . . . ) - we are currently using the animal crossings cards as an "incentive" for school. When he completes his "contract" with his teacher and gets a total of very good or excellent at least 3 times during the week - he gets one card. We have had one okay, two very goods and all excellents. I'm biased. I hope that helps. I think, though, that no matter what you choose you will be fine. Oh yeah . . . DS is 8 and DD is 4.

I would have to say I really like our new gamecube. However, I liked it alot more before my fiance bought a NCAA Football game and literally plays it everynight. I'm starting to be jealous of the game

Hands down the PS2. We bought ours last year and it is wonderful. There are so many games to play. There are also lots of inexpensive games (PS1) that are great for the little ones. My 2 yo loves Sesame Street Racing. I also have a 10 yo who plays several games. Jak and Daxter is the best one for that age. Then I have a 6 yo who enjoys playing as well.
My husband plays occasionally but computer games are his thing. I personally like the PS2 games. My 10 yo and I play a lot of the same type games.
As D2B said it is also a DVD player so we watch movies on it too.

My sprouts swear by the gamecube. When the XBOX came out at about the same time I asked them which one they wanted. They said their friends were complaining the XBOX wa flaky and would freeze up and die. Sounds like Microsoft huh?
They don't have a PS2. But a neighbor does. Every couple months they work out a box/game switch and see how the other half lives.
They like the gamecube best. PS2 is pretty cool too though.

I am the boring one here, I still swear by plain old Nintendo. I haven't had much chance to play gamecube, but I want one. My DH is putting his foot down because I get obsessed with them and then I get nothing done. He says I can be worse than the kids and their toys. Oh well, I outsmarted him, I bought Pac-Man for the computer and it never occured to him that I would be sucked in. Now I have to go I have been stuck on level 45 for 2 days!!!

PS2 is great but the Game Boy is also great. Keeps the kids from bugging each other for hours.

Here in our town PS2 rules. All DSs friends have them and they trade games so it helps keep the cost of always buying new ones down. DS likes to be able to watch DVDs in his room since that is where the PS2 is.
