I was just discussing a couple of books we had jointly read with adhdtimes4 which prompted this thread. I personally always have a book "on the go" and would really appreciate some recommendations of books that others have enjoyed...
The ones that spring to mind for me immediately are:
'Angela's Ashes' by Frank McCourt - a great book and a true story - about a guy brought up in EXTREME poverty in Ireland. He now lives in the US. Angela was his very long suffering mother.. Excellent Read ...
'The Other Boleyn Girl" by Phillipa Gregory .. an historical novel about Henry VIII's mistress who was Anne Boleyn's sister Mary. She had 2 children by Henry who were never recognised as they were illegitimate. Really well written and certainly brought that "time" to life!
Will add more as I think of them.... Hope others can add to the list ... ??

I LOVED Angela's Ashes. I had to contain my excitement though because I have a Catholic husband. Excellent book. Loved it!
Tuesdays with Morrie was another fav. That is nonfiction though.
There's another one - several years old - that I loved. It was about 2 brothers - one was schizophrenic - and the story revolved around the effect this had on the normal one. Cannot remember the title. It was about 900 pages though and I could not put it down. If someone said it, I would know it. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I just finished London by Edward Rutherfurd. I'd already read his Sarum and The Forest. All his books are wonderful, and taught me a lot about the history of England. (And Anne, I'm coming to London in June..!)

swmom, I believe that one is called 'I KNOW THIS MUCH IS TRUE' by Wally Lamb. It was good.
A funny series is the books by Janet Evanovich The Stephanie Plum novels. The first one is ONE FOR THE MONEY, then is TWO FOR THE DOUGH. There are, I belive 8 books each funner than the other.

Why is it that the English like murder mysteries so much? Barry Particularly "Agatha Christie" style? ... often with the "butler, the housekeeper and the maid" being the major suspects?? Or small sleepy little villages where a murder takes place and the local "quaint folk" are all suspected?! Oh yes I can relate ;D (But I still haven't answered your question Barry!! ... ;D)

I'm bringing a (gasp) small group of teenagers over in June. We're on a tour, and I'm the group leader, but not the guide. I lived in London (Ilford, actually) the summer after I graduated from high school. I LOVED it. I'll PM you a bit later. Got to go clean my friends house...
