Gabriel was fully potty trained by 3 yrs old. It was a lot of work but it worked. The way I was able to do it was leaving him naked around the house, it was the only way he wouldn't wet or poop. If he had undies on, he would wet. I made a whole big deal out of throwing out the diapers and we stayed home the entire weekend(it was a 3 day weekend).
To train him to stay dry at night, I literally woke up 4 times a night and took him to the potty myself. I kept a potty for him in his bedroom for this purpose. I did this for about 3 months but he never wet the bed and never has. It was a lot of work but it was worth it. You might want to try it....
Good luck, and don't stress too much. When he is ready, he will go. Also, I used to make a HUGE deal everytime he went tot he potty. I mean we would scream and yell "ALL RIGHT!!! You went potty, Good boy!!! ect. ect. We practically had a party everytime he went potty LOL!!!

I also woke my son up several times a night to go potty. It really helped. We did the pull-ups and I liked them. They were especially handy when we were "out and about". The little swimmer ones they had were really neat. He learned to potty by sitting down at first and we worked on the standing and aiming later. He also didn't like the potty chair. It was basically useless. What I found funny was that with him AND my nephew, they had almost no problem at all learning to potty in the toilet. It was the pooping we had issues with. Especially my nephew. He thought going poop in the toilet was gross. To this day, he (7) trys to take off ALL of his clothes to go poop.

I just remembered something one of the parents told me when I worked at the daycare. They had their boy sit backwords on the hopper and hold the seat with one hand. That way they couldn't fall in, and it um, wouldn't hit the ceiling. No nice way to put that. That of course only worked for #1. #2 was sitting normal.

JDMOM My son was exactly like your nephew; had an issue with the bigger bisnes. I had to tell him daily to go to bathroom and take care of it(at age of 3-4y), even now he 8y, prefes to take all his clothes of ;D First he was little frightened it may hurt, then he created constipation and then it did hurt. After that intensive "tell him to go"phase, it has been okay. Marja

I forgot to mention a video in my other post. I bought my son a Bear in the Big Blue House video called Potty Time with Bear. It is a very cute movie. Only lasts about 30minutes and discusses everything from how to tell a grown up when you need to go to washing your hands. Even teaches about flushing. It has several cute songs on it to. My little guy walks around trying to sing "Hey! Hey! Hey! Potty!" Also has the toileteer song on it.
Very cute and only costs around $10!
