www.feingold.orgThe Feingold Association is a nationwide non-profit organization whose members avoid many common food additives because these additives cause neurological problems -- including ADHD symptoms. The association has a research department that contacts food manufacturers in order to determine which of their products meet the Feingold diet requirements. A Food List and Shopping Guide is published yearly listing foods that have been certified safe for Feingold families to eat. Research on food additives has provided evidence that artificial colors, artificial flavors, and a group of preservatives known as anti-oxidants (or anti-rancidity agents) that include BHA, BHT and TBHQ cause hyperactivity, temper tantrums, inattentiveness, etc. While the Feingold diet is not a "cure" for ADHD, and does not claim to be, most people who follow the diet carefully find dramatic reduction in their children's ADHD symptoms. The Feingold Association website includes a research area with many links to scientific studies, a special section devoted to a fascinating school lunch experiment in Wisconsin where an entire school was put on the Feingold diet with remarkable results, information on the Feingold program, and brochures you can download to help explain the program to others. For members, there is an outstanding support board. There is an annual cost associated with membership in the Feingold Association. However, because it is a non-profit organization, they are able to make special accomodation for those with financial need. www.feingold.org
