Hello! I'm new to all this and I'm trying to learn about ADHD because I believe my 9 yr DS is ADHD. I read somewhere in one of these posts of subtypes of ADD/ADHD and it referenced different names used to describe the behavior exhibited by the subtypes. Where do I find more info on this classification?
I read so many of the posts and my neck hurts from nodding so much! It is great to have such a support board such as this one. Lofo

Hi Lofo and WELCOME. Dr. Daniel Amen has a book called "Healing ADHD" which is absolutely brilliant (my opinion but I know I am not alone!) and also lists in detail all the six different types of adhd ... I really recommend it ...
He also has a website but am not sure offhand what the address is....

Most doctors use the DSM-IV to describe three primary subtypes of ADHD, namely: ADHD primarily of the inattentive type (ADHD/I, meeting at least 6 of 9 inattention behaviors) ADHD primarily of the hyperactive-impulsive type (ADHD/HI, meeting at least 6 of 9 hyperactive-impulsive behaviors) ADHD combined type (ADHD/C, meeting at least 6 of 9 behaviors in both the inattention and hyperactive-impulsive lists) aappolicy.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/pediatrics%3b105/5/1158
