How are we going to bring in new members?

I did a search for "ADHD support" to see if this site came up and of course I got 79,000 hits. I checked the first 6 pages but this site wasn't on it. Adhd.com was on it as were my other hangouts conductdisorders.com, schwablearning.org and ldonline.org.

How can we get this site to show up on search engines if someone were to search for ADHD?

I think that also, the more sites that link to here, the higher it goes on some lists.

I submitted this site to the open directory project a few days ago. I registered it as an ADHD support community and chatroom.

It usually takes them about 1-2 weeks to list a site. Then it will start showing up on some search engines.

Some engines get their updates from the open directory project every couple of weeks. Google is one. Some engines only update every month or even every 6 months.

This forum should be google-able in 1 to 3 weeks depending on their update timing. In the meantime I listed all three of the new forums on my website homepage. That site shows up on search engines. I doubt many people will find their way here from my site. But you never know.

Allanque's right. The more sites that link to this site the higher on the list of a billion hits it will be on engines like Google that factor in how many links there are to a site. If you have a website please add the URL. It will help people find this site with search engines once it has been picked up from the open directory.

Hope that made sense. Anyway the main message is that if you have a website you can help people find this site by adding the URL. Even if people don't visit your site, search engines will move it higher up the list of hits.

we have over 400 plus members so far. I think word of mouth and the internet searches do very well. Kudos for everyone making it a informative site and keeping the topics interesting.

This site came up about 6th when I searched "ADHD support forum". If more people link to this forum from their own sites it should go even higher up the list.

I got a feeling number one is shelling out some bucks to be number one. It's a commercial site. So number 2 is pretty dang impressive for a forum that's been around what? About 2 months? Why don't we go ahead and declare victory!

I just did "adhd support forum" as a Google advanced search function (ie for an exact phrase) and it came upon number one. I always use the advanced search function.

I loved the old site and I love this one too. I told Veronika I'd see what I could do about getting this site to turn up on the search engines. But it's Renee's and Veronica's efforts that have made this a community that people want to belong to and contribute to.

I just wanted to help make it a little easier for new people to find. It took a tiny push but now it's the activity and growth on this forum is what's really making it move up the lists.
