My youngest child is ADHD, and one of the things we are working on is not putting things in his mouth, really, it's more of thinking things through before you just go ahead and try them. For some reason Brian thinks if he can think it he can do it. So the three kids are upstairs playing, when Brian comes down to the kitchen where I was doing dishes and says I swallowed metal. Of course my question was what kind of metal did you swallow. He shows me how big it was and I'm thinking he swallowed a quarter, and I'm trying to figure out if you can pass a quarter because he's obviously not choking. Then he tells me, it only had writing on one side. So of course now I'm thinking it's definately not a quarter. He was trying to explain what it was and he tells me, it's that think that makes your flashlight go on, but not the light bulb. Of course now I'm totally confused so I asked his brother what's up. The oldest of my three kids, he's 12 by the way, wondered if someone swallowed a button battery about the size of a quarter, would it make them go faster. Brian being naturally curiuos decided to put that to the test. Four hours later, at the hospital, after the emergency surgery to remove the battery, since it got lodged behind Brian's heart, the doctor is trying to explain to my children that batteries do NOT make people go faster, only remote control cars. Now wouldn't you think that at 7,10 and 12 they would know better?

I know just what you mean. It is funny to hear the reason WHY they do things, and even though you know it is relatively nothing, you still pace while the doctor does the surgery. Shaun's "nose was twinkly", so he was trying to make it feel better and a penny "jumped up inside". It was lodge all the way up in his nose, right next to his eye! After the penny was removed, the doctor handed it back to him, saying, "a penny for your thoughts, Shaun". Of course, the worst of it was that I was teaching an EMT class for the ambulance when DH called to interrupt and told me to come home so I could take him to the ER that night. So, the entire county knew that my kid did something stupid! My chief wanted to come with me to pick up the kid by AMBULANCE! I said, NO WAY! I am just glad that I found a decent shade of permanent hair color to hide all the gray these kids give me!

So they found out ;D No need to swallow any more batteries This sound´s so familiar; I remind myself constantly to THINK CAREFULLY before saying anything stupid infront of my kid´s, ´cause they MIGHT GET THE IDEA TO TRY TO FIND THAT OUT(what ever it is)

I'd have to say that the most embarassing part is that I'm a nurse; going to school for pediatrics - and I know the vast majority of the ER staff by first name because I'm in there so much with my youngest
