Speaking of glassess I just spent over an hour trying to get Rileys fixed. Dh and I were both working on those things. He got a pair of trial pair of contact lenses in May and has only put them in 2 times. He hates wearing glasses (but will do so when he is driving) so I wanted him to try wearing the contacts which would also be very useful for sports and he tells me every week "yea mom I will try" so I don't want to buy a new pair of glasses if we are going to end up getting the contacts. He has astigmatisim (like me) so our contacts cost 80.00 for 6 months. I know he wants to wear contacts for basketball season but if he decides not to wear them I will have to buy him a new pair of glasses. We are forever taking them in for new nose pads or for a re-allignment (if they are beyond our control of fixing). We also got the bendy ones and they are a life saver. We go to the eye dr at walmart which helps because it isn't an extra trip when they need fixing LOL .

See and you guys thought it was my brain that was misshaped Do you know any math? If A, then B... just because you have mis shaped eyes, does not guarentee that your brain isn't mis shaped also! ;D Okay, here is my story! Michael was in glasses at age 6 MONTHS... we have been through all the flexible glasses they make with him! They work, until the dang kid REALIZES they are bending, goads the neighborhood bully who is 4'6" tall and weighs 150lbs. in 1st grade, and the kid SITS on your face! THEY WILL BREAK! So, my advice is this... if your insurance will cover it, or if you buy the insurance on the frames... replace them no matter what at 11 1/2 months... they never make it to the end of the 24 months, which is when my insurance company would agree to buy a new pair... but they would replace a broken frame with an identical frame during the first 12 months! As for contacts, my astigmatism is very severe, and if it was 1/4 diopter worse, I couldn't wear contacts either. In high school, I was told I had to use hard lenses or nothing, but the technology is getting better ALL the time. So, it is worth asking again if your prescription could be made in contacts. I put Michael in contacts at age 12, which was very young, but he actually did better with them than with the glasses. He has only got pink eye once, and who is to say that is from poor hygiene? The doctor was great, really scared him good about cleanliness, removing lenses, and disinfecting them... showed him pictures of eyeballs starved of air! Told him she could see that he hadn't been taking them out every night, and if she saw any more deterioration, she would NOT write him a new script when his time ran out! The colors aren't available for everyone, I can't get them with my severe astigmatism. For sports, we always had one of those "croakie" ties that attaches to the arms of the frames of glasses, so that they didn't fall off. He did get some fairly nasty lacerations at times when he got hit with a soccer ball in the nose! Only time he ever lost a lens from the glasses was snowboarding... and since we couldn't find it in the dark and the snow, I took him the next day to get fitted for his contacts. BOY WAS HE SHOCKED that I let him get them!

We just LOVE looking for lenses in the snow I'd rather look for a needle in the hay stack, at least when you find it it would poke you. So far so good :DHe has been good about putting them in the case at night because we told him he'd pay for the next pair in working around hte house......and not just regular chores
