I wanted to post this in several different categories, but decided I'd just keep it here. Today was the first appt. in the process of having DS evaluated. I watched a short video about a computer test that DS will be taking Thursday. Then I filled out a BASC questionnaire. Then I met with someone who asked many questions about DS's early childhood and our own (parents) childhood. Then I was given questionnaires for DS and his teacher to fill out. The computer test on Thursday is a new tool in evaluating. It's supposed to measure impulsivity and attention span. Next week we go in for the big, long IQ test and evaluation. Sept. 1 we get the results. I'm sort of excited, but can't wait to get this over with. I just reread this and it doesn't convey the emotions I feel--I'm really excited about the thoroughness of this and really am excited about finally getting some answers and help. I'm having trouble being calm right now!

It's such a great feeling to finally be in this process and I wish you the best with it all. It'll be a relief to finally have some answers. I remember how wonderful that felt all those years ago. It made me feel like I could finally start living.
Can't wait to hear your results.

Miles, in another thread you had mentioned having a written medical history of your son (oops I just typed sin ;D), and I got to wondering what I could come up with for mine. So over the weekend I gathered a log I had of his illnesses (just started that a couple years ago), calendars and receipts. I was able to come up with a history of dr visits, although it seems a little sketchy to me. Anyway, thanks for the idea; the woman liked it. The lady was also impressed with the log I had and wanted to copy it for DS's records. I was a little embarrassed by it's messiness and talked her out of it. It will also help that the pediatrician involved in the diagnosis has been DS's dr since day one and has all his records.

I too can feel your excitement and am excited for you as well!! I know how much this means to you and how long you have waited. It is weird that we get excited over trying to find out that our child has a " Disability" but I remember it too. It was almost a relief to me because I had seen her be so different from my step-dd's and almost wanted an excuse as to what made her that way. Now, I can use it in positive ways too. For example, "Cami won't turn her back on her dad for ANY reason and she is ADHD. What's the excuse of my step-dd's?" Anyway, I hope you get the answers you are looking for and a change for the better will soon follow!

Wow Kaiti, You had me hanging on that last post. I did not have a clue, and had to go back and reread the whole thread to see what I missed. Yes, I am happly married and have a son. And it is quite clear in our household, that if I had a certain sin, that my family would disappear. Miles

Skay, that´s just great It´s good to finally get to know what really is going on with your ds I know how worrying it is, how sensitive you get to every little reference of anything, how really annoing it is to wait until you get the result´s But in the end; you´ll KNOW, and that´s really important. GOOD LUCK

Thanks for your encouragement, everyone.
One thing that is funny is that at the end of this question and answer session, the lady said that she needs to get her kids on some good supplements and do something else that I do (I just can't remember what it was). I just find it humorous that I'm there to get help, and this lady acts like I'm helping her! ;D
Did you all have trouble getting your child to do a self-assessment? Mine took one look at the many questions and said "It's boring." I'm having him do a few at a time.
Some of the questions are interesting, like T or F: "I've never been in a car." and "I've never been to sleep." My guess is that these are a test to see if they answer questions logically. On my questionnaire about him, there were questions about whether he sometimes just doesn't make sense or doesn't answer questions correctly.

Today was our second appt. DS had an OPTAx test. Here's a link about it. www.komotv.com/news/printstory.asp?id=13017He came right out and said, "I didn't do very well. I kept hitting the space bar for the 5 point stars." I asked if he sat still. He said "I tried." (in other words NO) They don't tell them to sit still, and they are seated on a swivel chair with no back. I can only imagine how much he moved.

One step at a time, hope they get back to you soon on the results. Speaking of swivel chairs, you should see Nate at Taco Bell on those swivel seats. Bang Bang Bang. I started doing it too, and he said "You sure have a lot of energy!!" Back-atcha Babe!! ;D Miles

I guess I sounded upset in the last post, but I wasn't really. If it shows positive results that he has ADHD, it only confirms what I've strongly suspected all along. So it will just show right I am!!
