Sam had his 6-monthly visit with the psychiatrist today ... He (the doctor) had another psychiatrist with him who he says is his new partner and IF WE ARE COMFORTABLE (they kept saying "Only if you are comfortable") will in future be Sam's frontline doctor ... She seemed nice ... I said I was happy and Sam said "Yeah its ok by me" ... which was about as good as she was going to get from a 16 year old !! ;D
Anyway, they were very pleased with Sam's progress and asked him how he felt about his (now very low) medication ... and if he wanted to cease it altogether and see how he got on that was a GOOD idea ...
They also asked Sam whether he found the medication was an "intrusion" in his life. Sam said "No .. not at all".
Sam told them that he finds he can function FINE with no medication most of the time ... BUT he still finds that 'sometimes' (especially college days) it just gives him that little extra boost that - although he doesn't NEED as such - is still in fact beneficial. (OK !! he didn't use those EXACT words but that was the message he gave!!)
The Doctors told him (us) that at this point it is up to him ... it is clear that he can function well with or without it ... BUT if it still helps - even just a little - then there is no reason why he should not continue to take it. Basically the message was that it has got to the point (and I never thought we would see this in earlier years!!) that it is "UP TO HIM" !!
They also pointed out (to each other more than to us!! ) that Sam is now over 6 foot tall ... and that medication has had no adverse affect on his growth!!
