I've decided to stop the Ritalin LA because the tics are worse than her ADHD.She is on a low dose of haldol and I'm going to try weaning her from that when the tics stop completely. The vocal tic was too much to continue the ritalin. She sounds like a puppy.I was afraid it would turn into Tourette's.Her main problem is the hyperness and the haldol is helping that alot.I've read that haldol has alot of serious side effects so I'm going to try to take her off it.I hope I can find something natural to help with the hyperness.I've read about Magnesium.I'm going over to the natural alternatives to read, read, read.

Good luck with all this. My DD developed a tic after we increased her Adderall dosage, but it did quickly disappear after we stopped the med. She is now on Ritalin LA, with no problem, so you never know what will work. As for the magnesium, I just don't understand why it's more "natural" to put a chemical in your body that you buy in a health food store than one you get via a prescription. I mean, arsenic is a "natural" substance, but is still a poison, so why does "natural" mean safe to many people?! I don't see why people are so willing to experiment with stuff just because someone attaches the word "natural" to it. I understand that many potentially helpful substances are ignored by the drug companies because they are cheap to produce and can't justify big profits, but that doesn't mean every "natural" chemical is somehow okay. The FDA's testing of new drugs seems sketchy enough these days--- I certainly wouldn't expose my child to something that hadn't been through formal testing at all. Sorry, for the semi rant!
