I haven't been around much but lurking a little but I had to respond to this...... I am not sure how old your ds is but I used to do this with my boys when they were little and believe it or not it worked . When they would wake up in the morning they both would refuse to go potty so then I started cupping my hand to my ear and say to them "shh listen I hear something---then I would say in a very small voice---I have to go pee pee, I have to go pee pee, then I would look at them and say I know that isn't me must be one of you boys ;D they would both run to the bathroom as fast as they could go. Like I said they were both young when I did this but it worked and after a while they would automacially go potty when they would get up in the morning. Good luck!!

My 2 never had a problem, except that Mikey found the little "opening" on his underware when he was 3 And I don't think he would do it on purpose, but for some reason it was always wet Not that he had an accident, he just didn't move it enough out of the way

;DBy the way Jared is 10 years old. I wonder if medication has anything to do with not going.

:)He is 10? Then he is probably going more than you think.I don't think the meds have anything to do with it. If you think something else is going on...call his Doc.

DD NEVER goes to the bathroom when waking up. I don't understand it either. Today I got her dressed, we ate breakfast and then we drove her to school and not once in that hour span did she go! And she was fine.

Amber is 11, Dan is 14, and I swear they only go about 2 or 3 times a day. They just seem to have a very controlled bladder. Me on the other hand, I cant be very far from a bathroom for very long. both my kids are very athletic, and I always thought that may be why. They drink enough, and when they go, they really go. As long as he is drinking enough fluids, I would not be too concerned. However if he does not drink very much, that could be why he is not going much, and he could get dehydrated easily.

PJD1120 ... Could it be that your Jared is going the frst thing when he gets to school? My Jared had a teaher when he was young that made them all go the very first thing in order to avoid interruptions. Other than that all I can say is all kids are different..My Jared(11) has problems at the other end..he only does that maybe 1 a week if not longer. Seems like he would be uncomfortable but he doesnt appear to be. If it concerns you ..the best bet would be to ask his doctor maybe he just has a larger bladder and can wait longer.

Maybe they need to drink more water. I notice when I really push water on my son he goes more frequently. I always felt that with meds it was a good idea to help the kidneys flush out. We started this way back when my son was on allergy meds and I found it helped his allergies the more he drank the better he felt.

When I wake up my 7yo, I sometimes whisper over and over to him "it's too bad you need to pee so bad, this bed's nice and warm, oooh, I'll bet you wish you didn't have to get up and pee.." Just having a mean mom moment at his expense ;D He soon leaps out of bed and runs to the bathroom......................

I'm an adult with ADHD (and no kids) and I dont' recall any problems when I was young. I seemed to recall having normal bathroom habits. Its just now I can go to the washroom and before my pants are zipped and I flush I feel like I have more in my bladder. But I think this is a diabetic thing.
I wish I had more control like your lil guys/gals. But as an-ex RPN, I would agree that as long as they are drinking enough and when they go, they REALLY go I wouldn't worry. Perhaps too much salt can also be retaining water.
Do they go before bed? If they do and haven't drank all night then maybe they have nothing to pass.

Steven will never go on command, I learnt to just leave him alone and he eventually went. One time when he was 4, my mom took care of him overnight and they had a knock down, drag out fight about going to the bathroom in the morning.
