I barely caught a snipit of this information on the news the other night.... My MIL just called me and asked if I saw it, ok lets run to the dr, and have him pull out her tonsils too!! Sd ALREADY has 2 surgeries comming up ... Ok Ok if it really does help sure we will look into it, but thought I would throw it out here, and see if anyone knows if this really helps? Or are the dr's reaching now? cat

It's related to snoring, and the fact that often times when you have your tonsils out that you stop snoring and sleep better. some ADHD symptoms can be caused by sleep disorders, and lack of good sleep. So if the child is snoring they are waking themselves periodically through the night and not getting into the REM sleep that they need. Then they have the ADHD symptoms.
So then you get the tonsils out, the snoring stops and then the symptoms improve. that is the theory. Denise

OMG what next. BTW - we pulled tonsil and adenois 2 months before the dx of ADHD, it does not work - hehe
ohh we also went to several developmental eye doctors also AND had allergy testing done and many MANY audiology tests done.
Guess what - all that and my child has ADHD. maybe I was looking for a magic cure, maybe she can not hear, see, smell, taste THATS why she is like she is. It may be true for some, but unfortuntely not for us. Good news is she is not on Zyrtec anymore!

My NON ADHD kid is deaf in one ear, has wicked allergies that he is medicated for 365 days a year, and wakes 4-7 times a night with a WET bed. He had tonsils and adenoids out at age 5.
My ADHD kid hears fine (just chooses not to listen) and only occasionally wheezes (but so do all of his grandparents). He SMELLS really bad (but not with his nose!) and sleeps through ANYTHING... including the 4 alarm fire down the street with the trucks in the yard and the lights flashing outside his window that he won't leave a curtain on.
There is a better chance of predicting when the next earthquake is going to happen than figuring out what makes our kids tick!

IMHO ill-health of any description (including tonsils, bad ears etc) is the "luck of the draw" and is not related to adhd at all ... ALL kids can be susceptible to these things and whether they have adhd or not in addition is immaterial ... (again IMHO!) ... Sam is extremely healthy as a whole ... he has no allergies whatsoever ... the ONLY real problem he has physically is that he used to get ear infections ... but then again a HUGE amount of all kids get ear infections!! ... whether they have adhd or not is totally random .... I know many NON adhd kids who have all sorts of ailments ..... I still say this is a real LONG-SHOT !! .. but still interesting to think about !!
