Has anyone heard of the Bancroft group of doctors in the Philly/So. Jersey area? I just changed insurances and isn't it wonderful, Olivia's neurologist won't accept the new insurance. Great. The doctors for the new insurance are all 45 minutes away from me (the closest) and they all seem to be part of the Bancroft group. Ithink I have heard of them before, that they are pretty decent, but if anyone has any info on them that would be great. Thanks!!!!

I'm in SJ and I haven't anything bad about them. What insurance do you have? if you don't mind me asking. There's a Bancroft community about a half an hour up the road.....funny thing about them is that their fire alarm's are always being tripped

I have Keystone Health Plan East....in talking to the pediatrician today about the problem, she suggested I look for a neurologist, rather than specifically a pediatric neurologist. That search turned up a dr right up the road from me. Does it matter that they don't deal only with children? Does anyone have any info or input for me? Your help is greatly appreciated. I am probably over-thinking this whole thing, but I guess I really want to find a good doc this time. Thanks!

Well -- I live on the West coast so obviously have no feedback about your specific doc. However, is there a reason you're looking at a neurologist rather than a psychiatrist? My ds sees a psychiatrist, and he's fantastic. Depending on your daughter's issues, a pediatric psychiatrist is probably more familiar with ADHD and the comorbids. Also the psychiatrists tend to schedule longer appointments than the neurologist, which helps for the more complicated issues we deal with. Anyway just my 2c. Hope you find a doc you really like who's close by. christie

I don't think it SHOULD matter about the doc pediatric wise, but we went over to AI DuPont, and they were great, it'd be a little haul, but I think it was worth it. I don't know if your insurance would except it, but the way that our insurance worked with them, it was only the co pay like a doctors office. BUT they didn't see the need to do any fancy testing either.
They mailed everything to us, and when we mailed it all back, they called to set up an appointment. Hope this helps.

I would call up the insurance company and ask them for some information.
I know that when I was on Aetna they HAD to pay for an out of network pediatric neurologist because they didn't have any Pediatric Neurpsychologist on the plan within an hour and a half from me. (Actually I don't think they had ANY pediatric neurologists or neurpsychologists on the plan at the time - at least not in CT or the NYC area). When I called I told them specifically that I needed a PEDIATRIC neurologist - they didn't have any. If they suggested a neurologist or a neuropsychologist - I told them it HAD to be a PEDIATRIC one - the doctor who wrote the referral also wrote in her referral that it HAD to be a PEDIATRIC neurologist/neuropsychologist NOT a regular one or a regular psychologist. I don't know if it was due to anything legal or policy but they had to cover the out-of-network because there wasn't one in plan within a reasonable driving distacne. It took many converstations to get it all straightened out. But it was worth the total of over 24 hours in phone calls to get the coverage (much of that was after the bills were submitted and rejected - but I had been told that they would be covered before going and they actually were covered - they just tried to get out of it - big surprise!)
Also the key here is that Alexander's pediatrician wanted her tested and only tested by a pediatric neurologist or pediatric neuropsychologist NOT a psychologist or psychiatrist, etc. - she had a medical code and wrote a very long letter stating that.

thanks guys....I think I am going to call the neurologist near me to set up an appointment and go from there. As to why we went with a neurologist in the 1st place, I don't really know. We went where we were referred, and at that point I was just so happy to have someone say "yes, there is something wrong with your child" that I just stayed with him........isn't that funny that I was HAPPY to know that there's something wrong with her? I guess cause that meant there wasn't something wrong with me - well there's lots wrong with me but that's another topic - LOL. Anyway I digress....I'll let you know how things go!

Let us know how it goes, and don't worry, no one is normal....how fun would that be Oh thinking about it, I first went to an allergist, then he told me to go to a neurologist, which ticked me off because he didn't say why, BUT the neurologist can help to pin point problems other than outside influences. They look at the whole from an outside, not inside biased point of view. With all of the papers I filled out and mailed back, I should be getting a kick back from the post office, but life doesn't work that way
