I rarely come to this part of the board. dd was diagnosed many years ago and is now 19 and won't take meds so not much need for this section anymore. i took ds to see a psychiatrist the other day for depression medication possiblities. as he was taking family history, he mentioned this test called a QbTest and she could take it. it was about 15 mins with the results available a few hours later. the only testing we ever had done on dd was her pediatrian who took surveys from us and teachers, tried her on ritalin because she was quite sure she knew what was wrong. the ritalin made a huge difference so never went any further. the dr. gave me the pamphlet on it. dd has read it but doubt she'll actually go thru with it since she doesn't want to take meds are try to help herself in some other way. just in case she does, do any of you know about this test? have you been impressed? not impressed? is it helpful? i guess i keep hoping she'll try to help herself and do this and thought i'd see what anyone knows about it. he said it's pretty rare to find it here in the midwest, it's mainly from out east and in europe. tia karen

well i finally read thru the brochure the dr. gave me. it tests how fidgety your child is, impulse control and something else. it's done with a computer, takes about 15 mins and the results are done there on site and ready in a short period of time. it's for diagnosing and treatment, either drugs or natural alternatives. sounds like it's more specific for treatment issues such as the time your child takes the meds. the test is reissued as needed to make sure things are still as they need to be or what has changed. i guess there is enough of the skeptic in me to wonder how expensive it is since it needs to be given more than once while being treated. the dr said it was much more common in the east since he was with a harvard group. but not so common here in the midwest. was just wondering if anyone knew about it and what they knew. karen

kaiti, thanks for the info. dd has had neither test and she's actually thinking about it and at least said she knows she needs to start taking meds again. but then she's probably just saying what she knows i want to hear. sounds like this would help her maybe understand better and pay more attention to the way meds affect her, especially now that she's old enough to figure it out. we'll see if she really does it. i guess my skeptisism comes from how often does the test need to be redone and how much is it? hate to see the insurance or us pay for this any more than necessary. thanks again. karen
