Stephanie has an appointment in a few weeks to see if she has sensory issues.Should I give her Adderall xr or let them see the "real" Stephanie?I feel like I should not give her meds but school is that day and her appt is not until 1:00 so I am going to pick her up early so she will not be counted absent. She can not go to school without her med because she is real hyper without it.Any suggestions?

Hi Brenda If she need´s to go to school that day, I would give the med, but I would also tell them she has had it, so they could take that on consideration too. If they dont really understand the difference between w/ med and W/out med, then you should ask them to make an other appointment to see her without med´s too. I´am not sure this will work for you, but I hope so. Good luck!!

Call ahead and ask the OT performing the evaluation what she/he would prefer. Em's first OT evaluation was without meds but she started Strattera shortly after.
The OT evaluation is primarily about movement, how well, how fast, how rigid or not the movements are. Medications generally don't have much impact on this. In fact they can help her listen and stay on task for a more accurate test of her physicial skills and mobility.
BTW...it was very interesting to watch and OT has made a great difference with Emily along with some other newer approaches to 'curing' her. She was also diagnosed as Sensory Integration Dysfunction.
