Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has had any success with homeopathy for ADD? A friend of mine is studying homeopathy with a Dr. Herscu, and she says he's had a lot of success with ADD....I did make an appointment for my son (this was before I bought the book by Dr. Amen). Is this grasping at straws? Maybe! Still, we're going to go (he's in Connecticut). Certainly, it won't be the first straw I've grasped at!!! If it does anything, I'll definitely let people know about it. If it doesn't....we're definitely going to find a doctor who follows Dr. Amen's teaching. I'm quite excited about that!! ;D

Weskie, You sound so much like me it's scary!
I took a trip to see two of the top homeopaths in the world, Judith Reichenberg and her husband Robert Ullman. They are authors of some outstanding books on the subject of adhd.
I gave this treatment just over a year and tried everything to the letter on what was recommended. I spent well over $2,000 in this endeavor but did not find any success what so ever. It is typical for someone to say "Just because it didn't work for me doesn't mean it won't work for you, everyone is different". While this can be true of a lot of methods on treatment I don't think it is on this one. It took me many wasted years and thousands of dollars that have been lost to false hope in finding something substantial that would be the answer.
I am convinced that homeopathy does not help with a serious brain disorder. I will use this for other things however like a cold or flu symptoms. Not for a serious brain disorder. When used in this manner I found it to be little more than hocus pocus.

Hi ohmama, Wow! Maybe I'll just cancel the appt with Dr. Herscu. Many, many dollars have gone down the drain as we've tried various things....I think I'll stick with Dr. Amen!

I know with Dr. Amen your money will be well spent. You will have a complete and accurate diagnosis. That's half the battle.
You will also have the brain scans that you can study and hold in your hand as proof of your sons condition. I think that is as concrete as you can get. It sure beats a checklist of guesswork symptoms as a diagnosis.

Just what is Homeopathy? How does it work for a cold. What does it do?

Homeopathic medicines are derived from natural substances and are given in very small, specially prepared doses to stimulate the body's ability to heal itself. That's the short version of what it is.
The concept is that like cures like, which is the basic principle of homeopathic medicine, this means that the same substance that can cause a particular set of symptoms in a healthy person can cure the same or similar symptoms in a person who is ill. This idea, also called the law of similars, dates back over five thousand years to the ancient medical texts of China and India.
Samuel Hahnemann (1775-1843) is the founder of homeopathy. He expanded the ancient idea of this concept into a medical system and coined the term homeopathy.
A homeopathic medicine is said to restore balance to the health of each person. Symptoms are the clues to what is out of balance. The emphasis is on what is needed to trigger a renewed state of health for each individual. When the rebalancing occurs, symptoms should improve. However, the converse is not necessarily true. Just because particular symptoms are eliminated, such as with conventional meds, it does not necessarily mean that the person will experience an overall state of well-being.
There are over two thousand homeopathic medicines made from substances in the plant, animal, and mineral kingdoms. Any substance that you can possibly think of has either been made into a homeopathic medicine or could potentially become a medicine.
An exact scientific explanation of why or how it is said to work cannot be found. Or at least I was not able to find. It all seems to be connected to terms such as the vital force, life force, breath, chi, ki, prana, and mana, depending on the particular culture or tradition. This vital force is an energy force or a kind of innate wisdom, which is why homeopathy, along with acupuncture, is considered a form of "energy medicine".
While I am all for natural alternatives as well as prayer, I think one needs to use caution in giving credit to this type of treatment for a serious brain disorder. It's just a touch too mystical for me. There is some truth to be found here but not enough evidence to convince me that those who practice this can handle all the complications that are unique to these disorders.

Ohmama, you know how I am, but I couldn't explain it better.
I read my body and read my kids bodies, that's just how it is. I read alot and find out about things, but thanks for the explanation. I might just have to print this out for a few people to see.
But I do agree, a serious brain disorder should be treated as such. Things might help, things might hurt, but when you have the scans there in front of you, that's reaching for the positive
Have a good night Kaiti

You're welcome! I like to think I am open minded about natural alternatives. I was so open minded about homeopathy that I was naive/gullible about what it could accomplish and should have done more research before spending thousands. I always seem to pay for my mistakes big time!
Now that I found this forum I have access to such a wealth of good information and sources of research that I don't think I will make these kind of big mistakes again. This board is the best!

This is a bump up for anyone wanting to see a discussion on what homeopathy is. If this method works for you please let us know your results and I would be curious as to what remedy was used.
