We took Conner to his regular doctor yesterday for a check up... He's small for his age, and when they showed me his growth charts, it is STILL going up, sort of following the curve, BUT it's starting to level out!!! (He's only 4.5 years old!) The doctor said that we will need to really monitor his growth for a while to make sure he's not going to be stunted from the medication. So... just pray I guess... Right now he's the size of an average 3.5 year old...BUT he's still eating everything we put before him! His weight hasn't really gone up lately, but it hasn't decreased either... Anna

The question of stunting the growth with medication seems to be such a big one ... our own psych says this is the 'biggest concern' that parents have about medication ...
From "reading" around on what various psychs say(including some very well known ones) I read that over the course of the entire growing period (i.e. up to late teens/early twenties) you can expect to lose about 2 cm total... which is really VERY VERY LITTLE when looking at the bigger picture ...
But the concern remains ... My son started meds at 13 ... he is now almost 16 ... he has continued to grow HUGELY in the last 3 years ... in fact a little "moreso" than the normal average growth .... but I STILL find myself wondering whether he has lost some centimetres/inches from meds... I guess we (as parents) will always wonder this!
GOOD LUCK ANNA !!

I have also read that if the growth is stunted by meds...they have caught up with their peers by age 20 or so. I bet conner turns into a big 6 footer! ;D

eeeerrrr ummmmm, been there still doing that... My sd just turned 8, we run into 3-4 year olds all the time that are bigger than her... Same story with my son, he is almost three and most people think it is amazing my son can walk so young (thinking he is a year old or something I guess!!) Dh and I joke (even though sd isnt mine) that we make shorties... (we both are short also) Im a whopping 5'2", and that is pushing it actually... cat
