When filling out the questionnaires in the evaluation, what kinds of questions do they ask? I know they ask about the child's behavior and reactions in certain situations. I guess they also ask about our parenting and discipline, right? Sorry if I'm repeating a question that's already been asked. You can refer me to the proper thread if you want.

Skay, I think all doc's do it a little differently, but for all the doctor's we have seen they always ask basically the same things.
They usually want to know how you disicipline, how the kids react to it, how they interact with others, problems at school, how your other kids get along, how you and DH get along, what seems to affect the kids behavior, and how he realtes to your other kids.
There is a lot of info that they cover, but it is best to give as much info as possible.
They usually always ask me about my pregnancy and if Honey has expeirenced any physical, sexual, or emotional abuse.
Good Luck...I hope all goes well...Becky

Thanks for your reply. I get really nervous about those intrusive questions. While we don't have anything to hide, it just seems too easy for some government agency to get ahold of information, and if there's something they don't like, give us grief. Does anyone know about safeguards against government intrusion?

Skay, that is a very valid concern.
When you check in at the front desk they will give you a copy of the privacy practices. All mental health visits and records are confidential EXCEPT, suspected or admitted child physical or sexual abuse, intentions to hurt oneself, and homicidial intentions.
Your mental health report is supposed to be kept seperate from your medical records so that it is more private between you and the doctor, and not just floating around the office for anyone to read over.
Also, I would let the doctor know that you are nervous about the whole appointment in general. If he or she makes you feel more at ease they are more that likely a good fit. If after a few visits you are still really uncomfortable or they make no attempt to put you at ease it is time to look into the possibility of a new doctor.
I think it was Oh Mamma who told me to keep in mind you are a customer of the doctor.
Good Luck...I really hope it goes well...prayers...Becky

Skay In here thay start from the very beginning; pregnance, labor, early day´s, when did child learn to walk, talk, ride a bike swim, how did he eat, sleep............ the hole picture. then about behaviour; did he go to kg, preschool or something compered to that, daily action´s at home, at school/preschool... questions like that. As for the privacy-policy, here it´s STRICKTLY privat, unless they discover something that is essential to child´s mental/physical well-being, if they see something like that they have to inform childsupport, noone else. But I know it´s a hole different ballgame in here. Good luck to you Marja

Don't know if this'll help now, but they also asked us about family history with education. I'm still trying to think of all the ins and outs with us.
pregnancy, labor, siblings, educational background including grandparents and aunts and uncles. Any family histories the we felt were pertinant information or may have an impact.
I don't remember it all, but hope I'm not too late Kaiti

As far as the evaluation is concerned, it won't be happening until August. The dr said that if we get desperate before then, though, to let him know. I think he understands.

DS had his checkup yesterday so I brought up my DH's concerns. I was a little leery of doing that, afraid that it would arouse suspicion that we have something to hide. Fortunately, dr has known us for 7 years and didn't seem at all suspicious. He mentioned HIPPA, but I haven't found specifically what is in that legislation yet (haven't looked a lot either; probably wouldn't understand all the legal mumbo jumbo). I think my husband needs to talk to the dr himself.
He hopes to start taking appointments next week; Aug 16 is the first day at his new office. (He has been our regular pediatrician all along and is opening up a new center to diagnose and treat ADHD kids.)
