I am so happy! I have been checking around for new help for Honey since our last fiasco with the Doctor. I think I found it.

I called last week to try and set up some family counseling like the last doc said and I got to talking with a lady about our situaion. I did not realize it until today, but she was the had of the program! She spent over an hour asking me about him and taking notes. She was an awesome lady. She feels that there is definately concern for his behaviors. She asked me if I knew what PDD was. I told her yes, and you are the first person who brought it up to me. She then said that something has been greatly overlooked in his situation. I think, I hope, that I have finally found a program that is going to work with me.

This is a program where they have a team of 6 or 7 people who work on your child. They have you and the school fill out the paperwork ahead of time and then they all meet before they ever see him. Then they decide which course of testing would be best and in what order. She told me to be prepared to see neurologists, peditricians, counselors, and phychologists. I told her be prepared? I can't wait! She said there is lots of testing that has to take place and it will take time, but they will get to the bottom of it.

I am hoping that my insurance will cover this. If not I do not even care, I will pay for it myself, (well, probaby through a Grandma financed payment plan ) but it will get done.

I pray this is what we have been hoping for!!!!

What a relief to find someone that gets it! Maybe your awful doc was a blessing in disguise -- if she'd been sort of good, you might have stayed with her and not found these guys. Hope things go well for you. How's your dh doing with the change of approach? christie

Dh has been doing really well with it actually. After we got that report in the mail it lit a fire under his butt! Now he is offended and won't forget it, so I guess she was a blessing in disguse.

Now I have a snag, the office just called me back and they will not cover it with or without a referral b/c they are out of the area. Stupid insurance. They are going to call me back this afternoon, with a list of resources for me and try and find out more insurance info.

She said that we have to try and find a way to get him covered by straight medicade, that way he'd be covered. I said how, she said you have him dx'd with a physical, mental, or developmental disability. Once again, I am chasing my tail.

I think they only way I can swing that is by moving out from DH with Honey. That is a bad idea. Time to brainstorm and call Human Services!!

Isn't ADHD technically a mental disability? You already have that diagnosis. The school system sees it as some sort of disability. Good luck, Sue

I hope you get help from the social workers to get him on DSHS. Or whatever you call it in your state. You know, the DD in "PDD" stands for developmental disorder, so if you got an appropriate diagnosis he might well qualify. I don't know if that's good news or bad news. Take care. Christie

I agree with Jorgy, I thought that ADHD was considered a disability. Or does he not have that as an "official" diagnosis? I know you've been going around and around with the doctors for a while now.

Actually I do have about 3 official dx's of ADHD, now I am waiting for Human Services to call us back... This will take a while.

As far as declaring that he has a disability, I need different insurance to do that. It is one of those circles. I can't get him the services he needs b/c he isn't dx'd, but I can't get him dx'd but insurance won't pay, but I can't get him on straight medicaid b/c he doesn't have a disability. Round and round we go. I'll get it firgured out. At worst I'll have to start sending letters. My mom is the director of the claims division of a very large, nationally known, health insurance company. She knows just who to write to those letters to get things covered. But she is always my last resort b/c then she wants me to pay her back and it is usually a huge pain in the butt. (Like driving 4 hrs one way to pick up my brother from college)

Either way it will get done, just have to figure out how. At least our peditrician called today and left a message that he would sign off on any referrals I needed, just let him know. What a great doctor! He actually listens to me.

You will get the insurance mess straightened out, it'll be a pain, but you'll do it. You're a great mom who is focused and determined. Keep us posted.
