I hope I got all the most common drs. Since we haven't actually started the evaluation yet, I won't answer, but he will be evaluated by his pediatrician.

OK, I voted the pediatrician, but only because he was the first to doagnose Brooke with ADHD. I'm a very thorough, stubborn person. So we also had a pyschologist diagnose her, and a pyschiatrist as well. Guess denial isn't just a river in Egypt.

The first unoffical diagnosis was thrown at us by his teacher, then the school psychologist, then the official psychologist, then his official pediatrition specializing in ADHD. I think I suspected somewhere in there too. This was a 6 month timeframe. Miles

It was brought to our attention by the daycare center when sd was only 3!!! We ignored it... Then brought up again in kindergarten, getting much harder for us to ignore at that point LOL We took sd to the pediatrician, and he confirmed he suspected it all along, why he didnt bring it up sooner is beyond me!!! Now sd has a psychologist (psychiatrist maybe?? I dont "get " the difference) involved in her medications, and councelling... sd is now 8 I check pediatrician, because he is the one we ultimately listened too, we tried to ignore it till then.. cat

Now sd has a psychologist (psychiatrist maybe?? I dont "get " the difference) cat catseye, I think the difference is that a psychiatrist can prescribe meds and a psychologist can't. There may be other differences and I 'm sure there are, but I know that is a major one.

Our pediatrician believed DS of probably having ADHD but would not make a diagnosis and referred us to the neurologist.

Since I only get one vote...a psychiatrist did the formal dx but dd's fourth grade teacher suggested she be screened.
With hubby, he basically dx'd himself after listening in the classes and seminars I dragged him to so he could better understand my dd. Then we got the psychologist and the doctor lined up after that.

We had to go to our pediatrician for a referral for diagnosis. A psychologist did the diagnosis.

Teacher suggested evaluation. Pediatrician coordinated all the lab work to rule out other contributing medical issues like anemia, thyroid, etc. He then referred to neurologist. Neurologist ordered MRI and - despite physical abnormality noted on scan - concurred ADHD was the likely culprit, but didn't officially diagnose. Referred to neurosurgeon. Neurosurgeon decided no surgical intervention required. Back to pediatrician. Pediatrician provided "prescription" for comprehensive testing so insurance would help pay. Psychologist did the comprehensive testing and provided official diagnosis. Based on psychologist's suggestion, we will be visiting the allergist in January. That's when my boy will start twice monthly counseling as well, to help him with his social skills.

I went for psychologist because this is the person who did ALL the tests .... However, she wasn't allowed to "officially diagnose" ... this was left to the psychiatrist (the boss!) .... so I guess my answer should be somewhere between psychiatrist/psychologist!! ....

We are not official yet. I have talked to her Ped. Who said that (when Holly was two) She is really a hand full, or maybe 3 handfulls. She said that we had to wait until she was in school to be tested. So we started pre-k her teacher says that she is easily distracted but by no means hyper. So we went to I forget what her title is but I know that she can't prescribe meds. She said that she could definatly see some of the trademarks in Holly but that she wants to meet with her 2 times with out me in the room to make sure. I think that I am the one that she has inherited it from, My hubby on the other hand doesn't argue that I have ADD but says that she is just being a kid. What planet is he from. Oh yeah the planet where he works 6 nights a week and then is gone most evenings to firehall or church or working on something else. You know the planet that says only moms have to take the kids everywhere with them. Looks like the soapbox is shifting. Another novel from me. Thanks for reading. (listening) Anyway. Holly has another appointment on Jan 28 to talk with the Psych. Amridgerunner

I has to check Physchologist, but we are the same as the rest. First a Physcholgist, the a counsellor, the a pediatrician, the finally a pediatric ADHD specialist and Neurologist worked together. But I knew way before all of this. So did my mom. Honey was never what youwould consider "normal." (I hate that word and hate is a word I really dislike to use.)
