Poggy's pre-k teacher told me that she is worried because she doesn't play with the other kids. That is just her she has never played well with other kids. Not that she is mean. Just that she doesn't seem to want to play with anybody. She also doesn't play with many toys. She is my little ball of fire. I have always thought that she was hyper. But after my niece was dx I can really see lots of the same "little" things. I want the Dr to at least test her to see. If it is not ADHD then what is it? If it is then I want to know so that we can move forward with her behavior. How do I go about requesting a test? Do I simply ask? Thanks for the info. Angie

Answer from a newbie to this forum. If I may.
Find out from the school. We were so fortunate to find our pre-school in the first place. Then on top of that they referred us to a state program where our son was diagnosed(two weeks ago). We sort of new, but were not sure. Our son had a seizure disorder so we have been around neuroligists for a while. The neurologists have mentioned everything from ADHD and beyond. Fortunately he has not had a seizure in about a year and a half now. We have just been dealing with the behavior problems. After discussions with his teachers they sent us for an eval. For now we will continue his meds and seek counciling for us to cope and help.

While the school system tested our son when he was in Kindergarten, we also took him to see a psychologist. This was a great help in the diagnosing and also help with behavior mod and learning different parenting statagies. My son also was not mean but didn't interact with other kids. Now with medications he is doing great in school and has friends. good luck, Sue

We went to the Ped. today. She said that she would refer us to a psychologist. I would have to call and make the appointment. I called and they don't have any until late Jan. So she said that she would put us on the cancellation call list. If someone cancels we will be called. Ped. said that she "thinks" Holly is ADHD but that she would prefer us to be evaluated by the psychologist anyway. I told her that was fine, what ever she thought was best.
One stumbling block out of the way. Now if someone will just cancel and let us have an appointment. ;D
Thanks for listening.

We were lucky, we were already taking both kids to a neurologist so it made it easier to get a dx. On the school note, most states have a law that they cannot say "your kid has ADHD", you have to have the doc or you yourself can ask for an ADHD survey to be done. In Kat's case the psyc eval was way off base, she is somewhat shy and reserved so it said she was mentally retarted and such. The teacher dissagreed with the testing and so did pedi so the neuro had them do a survey which showed both kids were ADHD, with KAt being the inattentive type.
