DD was finally diagnosed with severe ADHD. We went to see the doctor that specializes in medications for childhood disorders. DD has been very active this last week and this appointment couldn't come quick enough. When we first went into his office, DD was very shy with him and sat there hiding her face. Normal behavior for her if she doesn't know you, but usually only lasts about 10 minutes. Doctor was telling me that it is very unusual for a girl to be diagnosed ADHD and rarely severe ADHD (normally girls are just ADD.) He stated his concern that possibly diagnosis was incorrect and needed to be redone. Well about the time he said this, DD overcame her shyness. She stood up on the couch and jumped across the office into his desk chair. The chair flew across the room and hit the desk so hard that everything flew off the desk into the floor. She starts laughing and told him that it was an accident. I asked her to pick everything up and in doing so she also unhooked his computer. It took everything not to laugh when he just reached for his prescription pad and said he has changed his opinion.

How funny ;D! He should stick to prescribing the meds and leave the diagnosing up to the Dr that did it! I dont think that I could have controlled my laughter!

Wow. Usually, when I want my daughter to act wild (like in a situation like that) she won't.
Our kids know... they know

I love it.....thanks for sharing!! I needed that laugh!! I know all about the children who won't be themselves for the Dr......talk about annoying!!! I think your DD was perfect!
Is this going to be your regular managing Dr? Or was he the guy who was diagnosing her only? Both? If he is going to be the regular guy, it will be interesting to watch the whole thing play out!LOL!!

Thats the reason it took 2 years to get DS diagnosed. He is only ADD not hyper at all, and the docs kept telling us that mostly girls are ADD, boys are usually ADHD with lots of hyperactivity. It finally took a wonderful teacher to really get the ball rolling so to speak.

That is too funny! I would love to have been a fly on the wall! It has always got my goat when someone who only sees my dd a little bit makes assumptions. Kids, ADHD or not, are going to be on their best behavior to make good impressions with someone new, or someone they don't know well. My dd came home from her father's house Sunday to tell me about a comment her stepmom made. When Cami told her dad that she had decided to come off her meds to see how she does on her own, she said her stepmom said, "Well, that's good, 'cause you never needed them in the first place." Excuse me, but do you LIVE with my child? You see her every other week if that much! Come to my house on a weekday and sit with her while doing homework and then tell me she doesn't need them!!

This doctor is only for meds. We actually see the person who made the diagnosis for everything else.
